Day Sixteen of the Awesome 2022 Winter Olympics

So this is it! They have come to and end. And while hateful to the USA at times, they were also pretty kind as well. America came in fifth on medals. Just one behind our neighbors to the North, who are called, uh, let me check my notes. Canada? Is that right?

We got Eight Gold, Ten Silver, and 7 Bronze this year. Which is fantastic! Sure some countries did better, but not necessarily as diversely. That's a real 2022 word for ya right there!

Norway got a record 16 gold, but most came from Biathlon and Cross Country. German picked up a few here and there, but really it was their dominance at the House of Speed that made up the bulk of their medals. Austria found their success on the Ski Slopes and the Netherlands skated their way to victory. Only really a few countries like America have their fingers in many pies so to speak. We may not alwasy win in every event, but we are in the running and that is fine by me. I like knowing that in any giving year, everything is on the table. We'll, except for biathlon, lugging, bobsledding, long skating and Nordic skiing! But otherwise anything!

My time blogging on the games is thankfully done too. I wasn't planning on doing this I can assure you. It just oddly happened? Like a weekend Vegas marriage to a stripper.

And I normally don't watch the closing this quickly! Goodbyes make me sad. I prefer the Irish good bye. Just slip out the backdoor quitly. Sooner or latter they will notice.

Case in point? I haven't even watched The 2021 Summer Olympics closing ceremony yet. It's still sitting on my Mothers DVR. Maybe this Summer I will finally watch it. Who knows.

But for you guys, I watched it tonight, so there ya go!

Last night, or this morning really, I added up my word count total day by day.

Day one was 303. Day two 349. This is like one sentence thoughts.

Day three I'm up to 1177. Day four, 1876. Now it's paragraphs.

Day seven was already at 2710. Now I'm giving blow by blow accounts of each event.

Day nine was the Super Bowl as well, so I did 3138, but then on ten I still increased to 3541!

But then on Day thirteen, I was certain that over 5K was just to much for one post and so I broke it up!

But then finally on Day fifteen I was like screw it, write what you want, this site can take it, this is the end, and yesterdays was 5453.

That makes for a total of, not including today, 42,714! That insane! :o

Word count wise, in the last sixteen days, I could have written any of the following instead: The Great Gatsby, The Red Badge of Courage, The Outsiders, Slaughterhouse-Five, The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe. Or Charlie and the Chocolate Factory one and a half times. Or even The Old Man and the Sea + Of Mice and Men if we had just gone just a couple of more days. (Like today!) Or 60% of Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone.

But I'm glad I did it, now that it is done. As I blogged, as I will call it, I was for a long time constantly unsure of what to say. Do I recap? Is that what you do? And the answer I think is sure. Or not. But if I did a blog on Survivor, I would 100% tell you what happened as well, so I needed to do that here too? Right? Or not! My "problem" was, I just happened to be covering a country that wins a lot of medals, so my daily entry had to be long. If I had covered China, then my posts would have been much shorter because they won less medals! Just fifteen!

I learned a lot though. And if I had to do it all over again, I would. I would just have done it smarter and better using the knowledge i have gained. So in four years from now, who knows. And there is always Football season.

FYI, I don't watch other sports. Just football and the Olympics.

But come September, I could definitely see me doing a weekly something in my future down the road. If you can tolerate me.

So what about the final days thoughts of tonight's broadcast?

Well first we got the NBC clip show! Got to have a clip show! And then like six montages. Got to justify a three hour show! Got to make that final money!

Also the figure skating gala was really nice, now that the pressure is off them. Feel free to fall, we won't hold it against ya!

Mike Terico talked to the IOC president. What a butt hole of a person. Literally he would just repeat back everything and say nothing. I guess not taking a single stand is how you both get and keep that job.

But in all fairness I guess, he answers to everyone, so maybe you can't do it any other way and say your not a dictator. Who knows.

He also talked to Shawn White, or as I have finally now have come to realize, Shaun White. Who knew? Not this guy here apparently!

He talked about his business "Whitespace". I do remember seeing him and some others with that on their gear. Like an idiot, I did not put two and two together and figure out that "White" meant his name. Duh!

Mike did point out the complete lack of access to China as a whole and their abusive Covid polices, but its like too little too late now man. Right? I mean, where was this kind of talk and insight two weeks ago!

Speaking of those abusive Covid polices, American Figure Skater Vincent Zhou got screwed over twice, or the whole games as one might call it.

After helping us win silver in the team event, but of course not yet getting to receive his medal due to the ROC, they said he had Covid, and tucked him away for the whole games. He was not allowed to compete in the individual or even just hang out. But then finally he was cleared! And went to skate in the gala today! And was finally happy, and going to get to march in the closing ceremony! Good for him! :D

Sike! They barred him from the closing ceremony! :(

When trying to board the bus, they told him "No thanks!" They said he was a "close contact risk"! He said he has tested negative 14 times in a row now, and can't spread it, but who cares, right! All about that clown show! Apparently being double masked outdoors is more dangerous then being unmasked inside. Fing nuts!

Remember now THEY ARE ALL GOING HOME NOW! So what is the point? It's all just a for the camera's clown show now. But that is maybe JMO. YMMV

We found out that Great Britain won just two medals and a single gold. That gold being in Women's Curling. And Queen gave them a shout out for it! The old women. Not the band. Personally, I would rather it be the band, but that is just me.

We got to the Birds Nest, which I will admit, is really cool looking lit up at night. It's stylish and not gaudy and didn't waste space. I dig it!

Then everyone marched in which was cool. Lot's of great outfits. Something different going on at every turn. Canada's... uh... were very Canadian? Is that how I say that? Basic off white with a maple leaf on the back. Way to get out of that boring comfort zone Canada!

Americas were more toned down than I would have cared for. I would have like to have seen them say MERICA! Something super in your face! But that just might be me!

They were nice though and I went online to see how much it would cost to pretend I was in the closing ceremony. I figured they were Ralph Lauren, as that seems to be there jam every winter Olympics, so I knew it wold be expensive, and I was right. On both accounts. How expensive though?

The sweater under the jacket that you couldn't really see? 500 bucks! And that jacket? 1800 dollars! For a down jacket! That isn't by Kayne West apparel! What! :o

But hey, making your outfits out of the price range of 99.9% of Americans is as American as it gets, right!

At least I couldn't find those dumb hats for sale. What a crap show of a hat! Terrible!

They played the Chinese national anthem at the closing, so we finally got to hear it. With just nine golds, that CD got little use. But hey, EBay!

Speaking of national anthems, they did present the medals for the Women's 30k at the final ceremony, which was cool. Unless your that Swedish women Eba Andersson who lost in the last twenty seconds. Then not so much! But I was all like, "Hey, the American national anthem!" Because clearly I forgot we took silver. Like a dumb person. I freaking wrote about it! I'm so forgetful.

We got the see the flags finally waving. A lot! They really cranked up that indoor wind machine on them. Finally! But uh, next time, maybe just get one of those horizontal poles that hold the top for like ten bucks, on Amazon. Just saying. Would have solved all the problems cheap and easy.

Shoot, they probably make the darn things. Right!

We learned from the closing show that the Chinese really love big LCD screens and putting LED lights into everything! Like we might would with a five year old's shoes, or a three year old's toys. But instead into everything!

And Italy, what a break! Normally at the end of these games, you put on a big lavish expensive show, to showcase your event in four years. Great Britain in 2008 hauled off to China big double Decker buses and a few hundred people! But "due to covid", they only had to send like two dancers as once again, Chinese programmers did the heavy lifting. That and like they cut to an Italian block party back home. And that is like what, twenty bucks in little flags and a tub of spaghetti? So talk about saving a bundle. Good for them! Now they can put that money into buying cute little hats for all of those little monkeys that the organ grinders have.

We'll a see you a in a the four years Italy!

They also put a bunch of this final show on those kids shoulders let me tell ya. I guess nothing says China like letting eight year olds do all the work, right!

But I still think it is all shenanigans. Personally, not buying it! Those kids are lip syncing to other kids. Right? There not doing it live are they? Or even just to themselves. I mean if your going to lip sync, then lip syncing to other more talented kids makes more sense. Right? That is my theory!

But my mom said "But they each have on a microphone and ear piece? What about that?"

"Uh, ya mom! That sells the ruse! See how that works!"

But they clearly were singing the right words no matter what, so maybe I'm just a huge cynic! Maybe I'm just a crazy person! Who knows!

China also in the very end showed us in fireworks the phrase "One World, One family." Isn't this the nation that has a single nation policy. Like every other nation is just a break away province? Or am I just taking shots now here at my end? Who knows. But that is what I was thinking while watching it! I just have to throw that out there.

So there we go. It's done! I mean do I have some broad thoughts on a few things? Uh, yea! But way to much for today. Maybe in a week when I have got back into my life and can write it up on my schedule and not the Olympics. Maybe.

I have come to some realizations from over thinking a few things super late in the day when I am tired and my brain is in that crazy connect the dots on the wall with red string state of mind.

Like how that American Samoan I goofed on is probably the real poster child for the Olympics. When you really think about it. And I honestly get now the attitude of Alexandra Trusova who took silver in Women's figure skating. Now that I have given it some more thought that is. And maybe I am being too hard on Guuuuuuu! Like maybe she is just the really smart one here after all. For now anyway. And what is "real legacy" in the Olympics? How do you really achieve it like Shawn White in comparison to Nathan Chen who will fade into obscurity in months not even years. I have some things to say, and maybe I will.

Or maybe in four years. Who knows! I mean in a few more posts, I will have closed in on "Game of Thrones" territory on my word count, and that's no good! I like this blogging, but it don't pay my bills

So anyway, it's been fun, and feel free to tell me what you liked in a PM, but only if you also tell me what you didn't like as well. Fair and balanced criticism is how we all learn. :)

That and the hard way!

Bye!
