UNDERDOGS
For this Sunday edition of UNDERDOGS, we looked at two games in the 2018-19 Premier League.
To win, all we had to do was answer the question: “Will both teams lose?”
We had two choices — YES, if we thought both dogs (in bold and red) would lose, or NO, if we thought at least one of them could pull off an upset.
So, in the first part of this DOUBLE PLAY we had the Tale of Two Manchesters... both favored, but who would win?
GAME ONE
Manchester City vs. Huddersfield Town / DRAW
Poor Towners were in for a slaughter today. City tore their visitors to pieces going up 3-0 in just the first 30 minutes. David Silva was in unbelievable form and his goal along with Aguero’s hat-trick, his ninth in the PL, helped City dominate this one from the get-go. Gabriel Jesus and an own goal rounded out the scoring. The Towners got one goal in the first-half but it just seemed like a blip in the City storm.
GAME TWO
Brighton / DRAW vs. Manchester United
Brighton players were quick to the ball, strong in the challenge and brave enough to commit players forward today. United showed some atrocious defending to concede two quick goals and although Lukaku helped them halve the deficit they were outplayed in the midfield. Pogba’s late penalty after Duffy’s clumsy foul on Fellaini was immaterial.
It was the first time that England’s most famous club conceded three goals in a first half since October 2015. The dogs pulled off a HUGE upset.
Since one of the underdogs managed to win, the correct answer was NO.

#contestsjohngriffen wrote:Everybody is welcome to their "OPINION", but that's all it really is... an opinion.
Yea no shit. If it were facts what were we be discussing then?
While true, what does that have to do with the current nature of teams in MLB?
The players from those old teams are long gone...
Our discussion is about how good the teams are now
Your the one keeps touting your horn that the cubs won two years ago.
The Giants, Red Sox, and Dodgers still have a good core of their players in tact from their title seasons.
All opinions, and not supported by facts. First, if you don't "win" the regular season, you don't even reach the "post"![]()
![]()
And while the Brewers have been "knocking" for a while, the door still hasn't opened for them yet, and they find themselves in a position where they are now in third place and having to face an up hill battle
And the Dodgers have yet to prove their "invincibility" as well. They find themselves struggling even after adding one of the best players in baseball. Sure, they have injuries, BUT SO DOES EVERYBODY ELSE
All those teams I mentioned are winning. I hate to break to you. Not one is not in playoff contention. Just because they are not no.1 in the NL doesnt mean they are not winning. Should I bring in the AL then to shut you up about winning. The cubs wouldnt hang with them boys. The 'stros are way better than the cubs boy.
Yea but only by milimeters from 1st.
The dodgers did win the Pennat last year.
I dont think the dodgers are really struggling. Just going making adjustments. They are the true NL beast.
Plus didnt Dave Roberts win the NL Manager last year?
Well, if you are going to ignore records and stats, all you are left with is your opinion.
And I guess I should feel good that you aren't concerned about one of the heavyweights in the National League with the Cubs.
Last time I checked, at least the Cubs have won a World Series on this run of theirs, while the Dodgers have been denied so far
Not stats just current records. I got my gut. Im not the only one that feels the Dodgers are the team to beat. If you want to go by records the dodgers beat the cubs and were the NL Champs and were one single game away from being champs leaving it to you Yu your now current leftovers to throw a dud.
Yet the dodgers own the cubs when it comes to championships within the last realm of scope. I get it you hadnt won in the last century so you have milk this win to the last drop but last time a checked. The Redsox got a couple a head of ya and if it werent by a titanic effort by joe and the front you'd still be sucking Billy's goat Milk.
Never said I wouldn't want to have kept Arrieta... Heck, the deal the Cubs offered him was better than he ended up with the Phillies.
And you want to talk about the "tough" Phillies Home... in most rankings I've seen, Wrigley Field is usually ranked a spot harder for pitchers than the Phillies park...
Yea, he didnt feel appreciated. I thought the signing of Yu was better but he's kept chocking so far. I'd put this as a bust signing along with Heyward's.
Naw the ball just flies out in Philly. Its pretty much the top hitters park. Cubs have bricks and windy's that keep the ball in the dark. Phillies is closer to rockies. Most pitchers no matter what have a worser era in philly. Arreita is pitching good for them. He's been a bonafind ace. if they make it they can count on him. He got the cubs a cy young and a title. What more can you ask for?
Simply your opinion... many baseball experts would disagree with you
I had to look it up as I havent been into the NL lately.
My vote for the NL MVP has gotta to go to Freedie Freeman. Monster player lifting his sucky team to incredible heights. I'd take him over Baez any day. Complete hitting Machine.
Followed by Nolan. Complete garbage team some how is in the end the top race in the NL west. The vote could go eitehr way. Nolan at least plays 3rd base and its the best at that. Voted.
The comes Goldsmith. Again great player but his team is a bit better than above. Still tough NL West better than expected. Hindered by a terrible start has come by streaking.
The rest I didnt add because their teams are not in the top tiers. All of those would get my vote over Baez.
And the Year before that, the Cubs beat the Dodgers... this year, the Dodgers have not jelled yet, even with their new superstar.
They have some work to do if they want to see the post season this year. And I would disagree with you on which Division is Harder...
What statistics are you using to make that claim... From what I'm looking at... The Central looks far tougher when you look at records and stats
But last year the Dodgers beat the cubs. Yea too many injuries and other teams playing better than expected but that doesnt matter as long as the Giants are down. The Dodgers dont have to worry much.
Some work, but not a lot.
The Cubs really only have the brewers are as an equal. The Dodgers have the SF even though they are down on the charts. They always play their hearts out against the rivalry. The Rockies and Diamondbacks have been playing top level all year.
Again... simple opinions, which many experts would disagree with.
And if they Dodgers and Brewers already have all that heavy handed talent, why are they both in 3rd place![]()
![]()
Two things they've run into chemistry issues and just got their new acquisitions. Many is already getting to come around. Soria went to the DL though they just got him. The Moose and the Scoop are getting their feet wet. Its not easy to go from an entire career in the AL where your team is garbage all year long to a Heated NL fight.
I had to look it up as I've been out of the loop and you keep talking about 3rd place this best record that. The Cubs are only 4 games ahead of the NL for F'k sake. They only lead the record in the NL by 3 games. I thought you meant they had a lead like by 20. 4 games is nothing. The Phillies is are a .5 game off the NL East. The Dodgers 2. All of these are easily overcome. We've got more than a month left. When teams have choked 7 game leads with 10 games left I dont see how this is releavant. All the teams I mentioned should make the playoffs barring a complete collapse. Get real. The Cubs are not that impressive and in the playoffs all their weaknesses will be exposed.
They know how to win, and that's what they do. For me, that's the sign of a great team and a team with heart
Thats fine. They are not the worst team and they are not losers but in comparison I think they'll struggle like they always have if not down right get exited. They have some real monsters out there and being in the NL helps them but not much as these monsters will eat you alive.
Without strife, your victory has no meaning.
Without strife, you do not advance.
Without strife, there is only stagnation.

FAUX DAILY DOUBLE
As you probably know, this contest was originally a TRUE Daily Double with TWO races — IndyCar AND NASCAR.
However, we had to kick the NASCAR half to the curbside after some technical difficulties
So, this became a FAUX DAILY DOUBLE instead and we focused on just the IndyCar race — The ABC Supply 500 held at the Pocono Raceway in the Pocono Mountains in Long Pond, Pennsylvania.
To win, all we had to do was pick the winner. Our choices: Scott Dixon, Alexander Rossi or The Field.
THE RACE - IndyCar
Final results:
WINNER - Alexander Rossi
SECOND - Will Power
THIRD - Scott Dixon
Alexander Rossi dominated for the second straight Verizon IndyCar Series race, winning Sunday’s ABC Supply 500 at Pocono Raceway to tighten the championship battle. Rossi led 180 of 200 laps on the 2.5-mile triangular oval, taking the checkered flag 4.4982 seconds ahead of Will Power. The victory allowed Rossi to unofficially close within 29 points of championship leader Scott Dixon, who finished third.
The early portion of the race was marred by a 5-car crash initiated when the cars of Robert Wickens and Ryan Hunter-Reay touched in Turn 2. As the cars slid toward the barrier on the outside wall, one launched over the other into the catch fencing
Wickens’ was airlifted to the hospital for further evaluation. Luckily the other drivers were uninjured.
The race was halted for nearly 2 hours to allow for the repair of the catch fencing!
Once the race restarted on lap 6, Rossi immediately got the jump on Power to take the lead and eventually, took home the win.

Djokovic Claims Historic Cincy Crown
The Serbian etched his name in the history books on Sunday, clinching his first Western & Southern Open title. Five years after securing his eighth different ATP World Tour Masters 1000 crown in Monte-Carlo, Djokovic has completed the full set in Cincinnati, capturing the Career Golden Masters with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Roger Federer.
Nine titles from nine different Masters 1000 tournaments. Moreover, he has added a 31st title overall at the elite level, moving to within just two of Rafael Nadal's record haul.
"Obviously it's a very special moment to stand here for the first time with the winning trophy here in Cincinnati," Djokovic said on court following the match. "The hard times I went through, it's been a rollercoaster ride in my career with injury, taking time off and having a surgery earlier this year. This seems a bit unreal to be back at this level."
Federer was full of praise for Djokovic after the final: "Congratulations Novak on writing history today. It's an amazing effort not just today but your whole career to get to this point. It's an amazing achievement. You should be very proud. Well done."

Canadian IndyCar driver Wickens airlifted after wreck
Canadian IndyCar driver Robert Wickens has been admitted to a hospital in nearby Allentown with what the series called "orthopedic injuries" sustained in a violent wreck early in the ABC 500 IndyCar race at Pocono Raceway today.
IndyCar said Wickens was awake and alert as he was airlifted from the track to the hospital and he was still being evaluated Sunday night.
The 29-year-old of Guelph, Ont., was attempting to pass Ryan Hunter-Reay when the two cars slightly touched. That caused Hunter-Reay's car to careen into the wall and Wickens' car was pulled along for the ride. Once Wickens' car soared over Hunter-Reay's and hit the fence, it spun round and round like a top.
The fencing was shredded and Wickens' car was reduced to just the tub, which came to a rest on the track along an interior wall.
Medical workers calmly attended to Wickens, who was taken to an ambulance before he was transported to the helicopter. The impact of the wreck tore out a large section of fencing that needed almost two hours to repair.
In 2015 at Pocono, Justin Wilson died from a head injury when a piece of debris from a crashed car bounced off the track and hit his helmet.
Today's crash was a grim reminder of how drivers in open-wheel racing put their lives on the line.
