Man attempts to fly to Sydney, Australia but ends up in Sidney, Montana

Image

A man's dream to go Down Under and visit Australia was crushed after he embarrassingly ended up booking the wrong flight to a complete different country.

Going to Australia is a dream for many of us, especially at this time of year when the weather is all doom and gloom and the other side of the world is experiencing a nice hot summer.

One of those hoping to escape the freezing cold weather was New Yorker Kingsley Burnett, who planned on spending some time on Sydney's sunny beaches.

But as Burnett was on his flight from New York, he realised he made a terrible mistake when the flight was a lot shorter and he couldn't see the beaches, the Harbour Bridge or the Opera House in his approach to landing.

Image

The New Yorker had, in fact, made the grave mistake of booking a ticket to Sidney, Montana instead of Sydney, Australia. Ouch.

Instead of seeing them famous landmarks in the lovely summer sunshine, Burnett instead spotted some rather snowy-looking conditions.

Speaking to local TV station KTVQ, Burnett said: "I saw a mountaintop covered in white snow. At that point, I knew I was in trouble.

"It’s a matter of acronyms. The S-Y-D as opposed to S-D-Y. Somebody has to fix that."

Burnett told the local TV station that he was trying to find the best deal to head out to the Australian city, but he admits now that he probably should have focused on the final destination instead of getting a steal of a deal.

With no plans to stop in Sidney, Burnett went to the American Airlines desk at the airport and explained his situation.

Image

An airport worker sat him down and told him that he wouldn't be able to make it to Sydney in time for his planned cruise.

So he was booked a hotel room for the night in Sidney and flew back to home to New York the next day.

Burnett is now planning on going to the actual Sydney in June, when his dream cruise is now booked for.

On the night in Sidney, Burnett stayed in the Boothill Inn, with general manager Shelli Mann claiming that Burnett was actually the second person to make the mistake of landing in Sidney instead of Sydney.

Speaking to KTVQ, she said: "This is the second time we've had a guest that was trying to get to Sydney, Australia."

Woodpecker stored over 700lbs of acorns in walls of CA home

Nick Castro, the owner of Nick’s Extreme Pest Control in California, has been in the pest control industry for over 20 years.

He has seen many bizarre things in his career, but recently he came across a discovery that left him stunned.

Mr Castro was called to a house to deal with a woodpecker that was causing damage to the siding by storing acorns in the holes it created.

Image
Nick Castro was called to a house to deal with a woodpecker that was causing damage.

When he cut into the wall to remove the acorns, he was met with a never-ending stream of acorns pouring out.

“They just kept coming and coming, non-stop,” Mr Castro told The Dodo.

“Acorns were thought to be only about a quarter of the way up the wall. Turned out, they were piled high up to the attic of the house.”

Image
The woodpecker had stored a lifetime’s supply of acorns

Mr Castro opened more holes around the house, but the acorns kept spilling out, totalling around 320kg, which filled eight large rubbish bags.

According to the pest controller, the bird had stored acorns all over the house, creating clear woodpecker holes everywhere.

Image
The woodpecker had holes all over the house where it would drop the acorns into the walls.

“You would think this bird had stored food all over,” Castro said.

“The bird had completely destroyed the exterior of the house with the holes it had made. Acorns were stored all over siding and trim.”

Castro said that the bird was “crazy”.

“We actually saw him there when we were there putting more in the holes he created,” he said.

Image
Despite the damage caused, the bird wasn’t harmed.

The bird had put acorns through the chimney stack after making hundreds of holes in the wood siding surrounding it, and then it came through the attic ventilation port holes.

“Acorns were piled from the lower floor to about 20ft [6m] up into the attic,” Mr Castro said.

Image
Mr Castro collected around 320kg of acorns. (Nice bit of "builder's crack" showing, Nick! )

At Nick’s Extreme Pest Control, “All animals are handled humanely and never euthanised,” and this case was no exception.

The woodpecker was left alone, and the homeowners simply patched the holes outside the house.

It was hoped that adding new vinyl siding would encourage the bird to find a new place to store its food, which would ultimately be best for the bird, whose hard work finding acorns was going to waste.

“I never saw anything like that before,” Mr Castro said.

Ralphie the 'Demon' Dog Adopted by a 'Blessed' Owner Who's 'Completely in Love' with the Pup

Ralphie has left the Niagara County SPCA and moved into "a happy place" with a pet parent who is eager to love and train the dog

Image

Ralphie the 'demon' dog has a heavenly home.

The rescue dog first made headlines in January when the Niagara Country SPCA posted about the pup on Facebook.

In their adoption post, the New York shelter described the 26-Lb. dog as a "fire-breathing demon" and "a whole jerk- not even half."

"Ralphie is a terror in a somewhat small package," the Niagara Country SPCA shared on social media before adding details about the dog's bad behavior.

The comical and brutally honest Facebook post won Ralphie numerous admirers and many adoption applications.

While the Niagara County SPCA worked on finding Ralphie the right home, the shelter provided updates on the dog's training to be "a proper gentleman."

Then, on Feb. 2, the organization announced on Facebook that "Ralphie the terror" had been adopted and followed up the news with another post providing details on the pet's new home.

In the follow-up post from Feb. 4, the Niagara County SPCA shared a note from Ralphie's mom about his first few days as an adopted dog.

"I am completely in love!!! He's AMAZING ... I was literally questioning where the name 'Demon Dog' came from, and then I saw a few things ... although, I'm pretty convinced it's nothing we can't work on and get figured out!" read the note from Ralphie's pet parent.

"He found a happy place with me because he saved me as much as I saved him … I feel blessed!" she added.

According to the new pet owner, Ralphie is working on his housetraining, curbing his nipping, and learning how to ask for things nicely. He responds well to the "secret training treat" of sliced hot dogs.

Stowaway frog triggers alarm during screening at Pennsylvania airport

Transportation Security Administration officers at a Pennsylvania airport made an unusual discovery in a checked bag -- a "stowaway" frog.

Lisa Farbstein, a spokesperson for TSA Public Affairs Northeast, said a checked bag triggered an alarm during security screening at Harrisburg International Airport.

Farbstein tweeted the "stowaway" hopped out of the checked bag while officers were examining it.

"This little creature was toad-aly surprised when he was spotted and he asked for frog-iveness," Farbstein wrote. "This find by TSA officers won't be easily frog-gotten."

The Hilarious Moment a Dog Refuses to Look at Mom While Being Scolded for Destroying a Pillow

Image

This is the funny moment a guilty dog cowered into the corner of the bed and refused to look at his owner after destroying an expensive pillow.

Footage uploaded to social media shows owner Marcella Maioli gently scolding her one-year-old dog after she discovered the bits of the pillow strewn about the room.

Frisbee, a border collie and koolie cross, is seen hilariously hiding behind the bed as his mom tells him off.

But she can’t help but giggle over his reaction.

The 27-year-old from Sunshine Coast, in Queensland, Australia, said the pillow cost more than a hundred dollars.

“He has damaged a lot more before, too.”

31,000 cards: Montreal woman passing along father's extensive collection of Expos baseball cards

Image

A Montreal woman is passing along her father's extensive collection of over 31,000 Expos baseball cards.

April Whitzman's father, Steve Whitzman, collected the cards from 1969 to 2016. A huge Expos fan, he's got every player covered.

"I know they say there's no crying in baseball, but I think that was one of the few times I saw my Dad cry, during that last game. The Expos were very much everything to him," April told CTV News.

Image

Today, Steve is in ill health and lives in a nursing home.

"My Dad now has Alzheimers, so I decided to take the collection and, one-by-one, record every card that you see here."

After carefully cataloguing each card, April says it's time to send the collection off to a new, loving home.

"I've a good idea of what each card is worth, but I do believe as a collection, it's worth more to the right person, whether that's from Dad's love that he put into it," she added.

Image

Perry Giannis is the founder of Expos Fest, an annual event for fans of the franchise, which relocated to Washington in 2004.

He's also a big-time collector of Expos memorabilia.

"It's a great story about her Dad and his passion for the Montreal Expos, and as a collector I completely get it. I collect everything else, besides cards: jerseys, helmets, bats, whatever else there is out there," Giannis said. "Everything must go at a certain time, it's gonna be the same thing with me one day."

April hasn't had all the cards appraised yet, but has a buyer on deck.

The Whitzmans are hoping the pay-off pitch is down the middle and the collection will go to a loving family -- just like the one that gathered it.

Finally, the WD40-Scented Perfume You’ve Been Dreaming Of Has Arrived
February 7th, 2023*

MSCHF, an art collective specializing in unique and controversial products, has announced a new perfume inspired by the world’s most popular lubricant spray – WD40.

The versatility of WD40 is the stuff of legend. You can use it as a water displacer, to loosen nuts and bolts, fix squeaky hinges, prevent rust and keep mechanisms lubricated. The manufacturer of this legendary product lists over 2,000 applications for it, but body perfume is sadly not among them. In fact, the company specifically warns against applying their WD40 lubricant on the skin, but if you like the way it smells that much, you no longer need to risk your health, because the WD perfume is finally here!

Image

I know what you’re thinking, ‘who in their right mind would want to smell like WD40?’ Well, judging by the fact that the newly-announced WD40 cologne is currently sold out on its official website, I’d say that quite a few people are at least intrigued enough by it to buy it. Although we have yet to sniff it for ourselves, the new masculine perfume is supposed to smell a lot like the lubricant spray that inspired it.

New York-based art collective MSCHF has a long history of making unique things, from the holy water-injected “holy” sneakers, to the ATM machine that ranks users by their bank account sizes, ASCHF has always found it easy to get people to talk about their creations and this time is no different.

Image

The smell of WD40 is almost as famous as its versatility, and people have been making memes about actual WD40 perfumes for years. Now, MSCHF took that meme and turned it into a real product that people can order for the modest price of $44 per spray can.

Unfortunately, the WD40 perfume is currently sold out on its official website, and there is currently no other way to get your hands on it. If it ever goes on sale again, you’ll have to shell out $48 for a can.

Image

Even the official WD40 manufacturer took notice of the perfume, posting that while it is not in any way affiliated with MSCHF, they appreciate the effort that went into making the unusual perfume.

French tourist turned away from Edinburgh pub due to 'inappropriate trousers'
The woman slammed the pub and expressed her disappointment over the rule but management hit back and explained they work very hard to "cater for their clientele."

Image

A French tourist has slammed a city centre pub after her husband was turned away due to wearing 'inappropriate trousers'.

Known as Jo, the lady from Paris was looking forward to some tasty Scottish food and drinks while enjoying live music and was excited to try George IV Bar after hearing great reviews.

Sadly the couple were turned away at the door due to her husband wearing black Kappa tracksuit trousers which go against the boozer's dress code.

The woman slammed the pub and expressed her disappointment over the rule but management hit back and explained they work very hard to "cater for their clientele."

She fumed: "My husband and I are from France and for a first night in Edinburgh, we really wanted a nice pub where we could eat food and listen to music at the same time.

"The place was very well noted and the food looked delicious so we tried to get in. My husband was refused entry by the security guard that deemed his pants 'inappropriate for a restaurant.'"

Image

Jo continued: "These are thin sports pants, yes, but we're tourists, we're not supposed to know about some clothing policies, especially for a pub that is supposed to be popular, and most of all my husband's outfit was overall very correct.

"I want to add that I tried to call the pub earlier on in the evening and didn't manage to get anyone, too bad, maybe someone would have told me at that point that there was a clothing policy.

"Very disappointed and I definitely won't recommend it. We're currently eating at a pub that doesn't have live music, too bad for us, but at least we are welcome and we're eating well."

The General Manager at the bar hit back and wrote: "We have a policy of no tracksuits/cottons/jobby catchers in the bar in the evenings. Many bars in Edinburgh have the same policy."

He added: "We work hard to cater for our clientele."

The George IV Bar is a traditional-style Scottish boozer that serves classic pub food and drinks in the heart of the Old Town.

It has a four-and-a-half-star rating on TripAdvisor and many good reviews.

Another said: "Went for a quick bite and a drink. Didn't have the drinks we wanted but not to worry we were watered nonetheless. Food came out quickly hot and tasty. The Bar staff seemed nice."

While one added: "Large drink and food menu with great sandwiches and service.

"Family friendly, high and low top tables available. Easy access off the Royal mile and clean bathrooms. Lunch and drinks here were leisurely and just what we needed before continuing our explorations!"

Expert explains why kissing is actually good for your teeth ahead of Valentine's Day

Image

As Valentine's Day rolls round many lucky lovebirds will be preparing gifts, cards, and kisses for their significant other. Whether it's a first date or your 60th wedding anniversary, kissing is a universal symbol that a couple is loved up.

Behind the romance of a sweet peck on the lips, kissing is actually kind of gross when you think about it for too long. All that saliva swapping and the fear of bad breath, you'd be forgiven for thinking maybe it's not the healthiest of activities.

Dr Alan Clarke, lead dentist and clinical director for Paste Dental, thinks kissing this V alentine's Day could be beneficial to not only your relationship and mood - but also your teeth.

"Kissing, particularly passionate kissing, promotes the production of saliva, which in turn keeps your mouth, teeth and gums health" said Dr Clarke. "This stimulated saliva neutralises the acid attack from the work of cariogenic bacteria, protecting dental enamel.

"The extra saliva washes bacteria off the surface of your teeth, flushes away food particles and helps protect your teeth from cavities."

While the science doesn't sound the sexiest, kissing could also help boost your immune system thanks to that bacteria swapping saliva.

Dr Clarke said: "80 per cent of your salivary bacteria is common to everyone, only 20 per cent is unique to you. Thus kissing stimulates your body to create antibodies, offering future help fighting against harmful infections."

However, he also warned against kissing anyone who is unwell as you're likely to catch their illness, especially if they have an active cold sore around their mouth.

Kissing is not a replacement for a strict brushing and flossing routine either as poor oral bacteria could pass to your partner, making both of you susceptible to gum disease.

Gum disease and cold sores aren't the only risk when it comes to locking lips with a partner, bad breath is the stuff of nightmares for potential pecks. This can be caused by everything from smoking to medication but Dr Clarke has a few tips on how to help lessen halitosis.

"Firstly, it's so vital that your oral health is on point, with gum disease, cavities, and any oral causes addressed," said Dr Clarke. "Drinking plenty of water is key to rinse out bacteria and other particles or debris leading to bad breath.

"Quitting smoking or the use of tobacco products is vital, this will also remove tooth staining and provide a catalogue of wider health benefits, as most people know!"

If the problem persists or worsens, Dr Clarke advises to go to your GP to discuss underlying health causes or systemic disease.

Even if you've had your morning coffee, it might be worth grabbing some mouthwash or a pack of mints, which Dr Clarke says should be sugar free. These can instantly freshen up your breath with minimal effort, making for a much happier Valentine and more kisses for you.

A woman found out she was dead after her parents told news outlets they were grieving her 'loss' by feeding ducks

Alicia Rowe first learned of her passage beyond the veil while reading an article on the British news site Daily Mail. Following the discovery, she contacted numerous outlets to correct the error.

"It is pretty shocking, to say the least, to kind of figure out that you've died, and to figure that out from a newspaper from across the globe," Rowe told reporters.

Outlets reported that Rowe, an Austin-based therapist, died 10 years ago. The detail was a part of a larger story on Rowe's parents, who were suing their HOA for the right to feed ducks in their neighbourhood.

Rowe's mother, Kathleen Rowe, told her lawyer that feeding the ducks helped her to cope with the "loss" of her daughter, which outlets — including the outlet that broke the story, the Houston Chronicle — interpreted to mean her death.

Even the parents' lawyer, who passed along the information to outlets, told the Chronicle that he believed their daughter had died.

"She reiterated her words to me. And it was that she had lost her daughter," Richard Weaver, the parents' attorney, told the Chronicle. "When she told me she'd lost her daughter, I thought she'd passed away."

Rowe contacted the Chronicle to clarify that she was alive, but estranged, from her parents, which she said resulted from "physical and emotional abuse" stemming from lies they told about her.

Rowe said she was "incredibly angry" when she found out her parents used her to "garner sympathy" for their case. "I will admit it was kind of the ultimate exposure therapy to suddenly be surrounded by information about my mother and childhood trauma and all of that," Rowe said.

Image
Alicia Rowe (left) and a stock image of a couple feeding ducks

However, Rowe said she's found some humor in the situation, and pointed to a set of photos she took with the Chronicle. In them, she's wearing a shirt that says "not dead" on the front with a crossed-out image of a hand feeding a duck on the back.

"I'm trying to have a good sense of humor about it and try to stay positive about this whole situation because it'd be very easy to just kind of sink into this in a not great way," Rowe said.

In a statement to the media, Weaver said his client was "sorry for the confusion resulting from the statement that she lost her daughter. Other than the desire to reunite with her daughter she indicated that she would like to keep the family matter private," the statement said."

Though it's unknown if Rowe's parents meant for people to erroneously interpret their statement, Rowe said she has reason to believe her mother wanted to imply she was dead.

Rowe said shortly after her decision to cut ties with her family, her mother began sending letters to her saying she was telling people her daughter was dead. She also planted a "memorial garden" in Rowe's honor, and took her photos down around the house, according to Rowe.

"And if I wanted to correct this information, I was going to need to come back and begin talking to my family again, and then go to these people and let them know that I wasn't dead and that I had made a mistake and that it was on me that I stopped talking to my parents," Rowe said.

Weaver did not immediately respond to a request for comment on this information.

As for how Rowe plans to move on forward from this situation, she said that she hopes the public attention on her will help shed the stigma on estrangement from parents.

"It can be incredibly hard to define and hold those boundaries completely alone, so whether it's friends or other family members or therapists, just get support... Get somebody that can back you up and remind you that you're doing the right thing because it is a really, really difficult decision to decide to go no contact with, especially, parents," Rowe said. "But it can also be a really life-saving and life-changing thing."

Venezuelan Man Becomes First Person To Be Tattooed by a Monkey
February 6th, 2023*

A Venezuelan artist and social media influencer recently generated controversy online by letting himself be permanently tattooed by a small monkey.

Funky Matas is no stranger to tattoos. In fact, he holds a Guinness Record for the most signatures tattooed on his back, over 220 of them, but his latest stunt can be described as unusual, even for him. News outlets across South America have been reporting that the Venezuelan-born influencer trained a small monkey to handle a tattoo gun and then let himself be tattooed by the animal in what is considered a first-of-its-kind experiment.

Image
Photo: Allef Vinicius/Unsplash

“The intention with this tattoo was to create the logo of the NFTs project that I started with my partner Andy Williams, The F8 Club,” Funky Matas wrote on his social media. “And while the tattoo itself wasn’t the best in terms of quality, the event was a fascinating look into the capabilities of these highly intelligent animals.”

As you can imagine, this unusual experiment went viral online soon after a video of the inking process was posted on social media and ignited a fiery debate. While some applauded Funky Matas for pushing the boundaries of tattooing and showing the world how intelligent monkeys really are, there were also those who accused him of using the animal for attention.

Image

Although the online influencer did in fact get plenty of attention for his most recent stunt, he told reporters that all precautions were taken for this event, guaranteeing the safety of the monkey and all those involved in the event, including sanitation measures.

Apparently, Funky just traveled to Mexico and found a guy with some pet monkeys, and a tattoo shop owner crazy enough to let the animal work its magic on the influencer. After an hour of training with two monkey trainers, the little guy became a tattoo artist…

For all the lonely hearts out there, who have been ghosted by yet another potential paramour ahead of this Valentine’s Day, the London Dungeon’s first of a kind ‘Ghosted Service’, running on Sunday 12 February at the famous South Bank attraction, will offer a limited number of guests a chance to widen their dating pool from present slim pickings to the riches of the past.

A London Dungeon spokesperson said: “Being ghosted is awful. But dating a ghost… that’s a whole different experience!

"This Valentine’s Day, the London Dungeon is committed to turning a much-loved Victorian tradition into the new way to drum up a date.

"Forget about the stresses of modern dating, turn off Tinder, and try more ghoulish methods of finding love!"

They added: “Why limit yourself to one life when love has been around for centuries?

"Who knows, guests might even get reconnected with our very own hunks from history such as Henry VIII and Guy Fawkes or powerful leading women like Mrs Lovett (love is even in her name after all!)”"

Spirit communicator and practising Witch Madame Celeste will be in the London Dungeon Tavern from 12noon to 2pm on Sunday 12 February, summoning her powers to connect lucky guests over the age of 18 with a date from the spirit world with whom they were romantically connected in a past life.

Seances will be available for free to all guests who purchase a ticket and come down for a visit on the day.

On partnering with the London Dungeon, Madame Celeste said: "Dating nowadays can be quite daunting especially when you put so much in and still end up being ghosted without much explanation.

“So, this Valentine's Day, forget about the ghosts of your present, and let me guide you on the path to true romance and recouple you with a ghostly lost love – who may even have some insightful relationship advice from beyond the grave."

Guests needn’t worry that taking part in these practices might get them locked up, much like suspected witch Elizabeth Sawyer in London Dungeon’s terrifying show ‘Curse of the Witch’, as the attraction has issued a temporary moratorium on such behaviours in honour of the love-filled holiday.

For all the lonely lovers looking for romance and a great date location this Valentine’s Day, the London Dungeon offers 16 terrifying shows and thrilling rides bringing the city’s deepest and darkest history to life, delivering ample scream-drenched stories and fear-inducing shocks for an experience that guests will never forget. From Jack the Ripper and Guy Fawkes to witch executions and courtrooms, the London Dungeon has it all to put the most daring guests to the ultimate test.
