Naked sunbather chases wild boar through park after it steals his laptop bag
Image
A naked sunbather was seen chasing wild boar through a park after it stole his laptop bag.
Amusing photographs from Germany show the man running after the animal to try and claim the plastic bag back.
But the cheeky boar and its two piglets appear to be too quick for the sunbather, who can't keep up with their speedy little trotters.
As the incident unfolds, groups of friends and family sat on the grass watch on and laugh.
Heads are seen turning in surprise and amusement in the hilarious photographs.
The incident happened at Teufelssee Lake - a bathing spot in the Grunwell Forest in Berlin, Germany.

'So in love': Watch a gorilla and a new mom bond over their babies at the zoo

“For well over five minutes, she just sat there watching him and staring at him so lovingly.”

The internet is going wild over a video of a gorilla and a human bonding over their babies at Boston’s Franklin Park Zoo.

In the heart-melting clip, Kiki the gorilla is seen gazing at and attempting to pet Emmelina Austin’s sleeping newborn son, Canyon, through the glass of her exhibit.

“It was so sweet,” Austin told NBC affiliate News Center Maine. “For well over five minutes, she just sat there watching him and staring at him so lovingly.”

It all made sense to Austin when Kiki, a mother of five, brought her own son, 7-month-old Pablo, to see Canyon.

“Her face was just so in love,” Austin recalled. “She was showing her baby my baby. ... You could see the emotion in her eyes.”

Image
Kiki the gorilla couldn't stop staring at a newborn baby boy named Canyon through her zoo exhibit glass.

It’s not the first time that Kiki, 39, has taken a special interest in someone else’s offspring.

“We always joke that if a baby fell into our exhibit, Kiki wouldn’t give it back,” said John Linehan, president and CEO of Zoo New England, which manages and operates Franklin Park Zoo. “She’s so maternal.”

According to Linehan, humans share about 97% to 98% of their DNA with gorillas.

“You’d think it was even closer after watching Kiki with her babies,” Linehan told TODAY Parents. “Kiki didn’t put Pablo down for the first two months. She literally held him 24/7. She’s just starting to allow her daughters take him every once in a while for short periods of time.”

Pablo’s dad, Kitombe, is letting Kiki run the show for now.

“He’s dying to touch the baby — but he hasn’t yet. He’s being very careful,” Linehan revealed.

When Kiki was pregnant with Pablo, she was diagnosed with placenta previa, a condition in which the placenta covers the cervix. As a result, she gave birth to Pablo via C-section.

“We had to separate them for a couple of days as Kiki recovered,” Linehan said. “That’s always a bit nerve-racking. But Kiki took up right where she left off and immediately began nursing again. It was pretty incredible.”

Woman staged a fake funeral for her ex-boyfriend so that his mistress believes he is dead.

A woman who claims to have learned her boyfriend had cheated on her has revealed how she retaliated - and it's "pure evil."

Thea Loveridge, a TikTok user, claimed that after she and her partner gave birth to their baby, she discovered that he had been cheating on her the entire time she was pregnant with his ex, who she claims "caused drama" in their relationship.

"He ended up going to prison" shortly after she found out. "She was texting him trying to find out where he was, all worried why he wasn't talking to her," Thea said at the time.

Instead of telling her the truth, she "messaged her and told her that he was gone" - and she didn't stop there.

She staged a fake funeral for him and even sent out pictures of the service after convincing his sister to go along with her scheme.

"It's been three years, and she still believes he's gone," he admitted.

"Every year, she posts little tributes to the love of her life on her Facebook page, saying how sorry she is that she couldn't be there to save him when he died."

Since its release, the video has received over 1.1 million likes and nearly 16,000 comments from viewers who were enthralled by the lengths she went to.

"The Uhm, he was gone," one person said, adding a laughing emoji.

"IMAGINE SHE MARRIED ANOTHER MAN AND FINDING OUT HE'S ALIVE, AND NOW SHE'S CONFLICTED AND HER RELATIONSHIP IS OVER," said another.

While a third said, "It's the sister backing you up for me."

"This is heinous. I'm in love with it, "another observer wrote.

Cowabunga! More than 800 turtles rescued from storm drains

Image
This photo, provided by Stockton University, shows some of the hundreds of diamondback terrapin hatch-
lings rescued from storm drains by volunteers in Ocean City, NJ. (Lester Block/Stockton University via AP)

They’re lean, they’re mean and they’re green. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles? Not exactly, but hundreds of diamondback terrapin hatchlings have been rescued from subterranean storm drains along the Jersey Shore.

According to a Stockton University Facebook post, the turtles were hiding from the cold temperatures over the winter and surviving off yolk sacks in drains in Margate, Ventnor and Ocean City.

Volunteers who rescued 826 of the animals turned them over to Stockton University’s “Head Start” program, where staff will care for and rehabilitate the creatures for about a year before placing them back in the wild, NJ Advance Media reported.

There are 1,108 terrapins receiving care from the program, which has reached capacity.

If you find a hatchling, Stockton recommends placing the animal in room-temperature water up to the shell with a rock it can climb on. Healthy turtles can be released at dusk into a tidal creek or bay area.

Viral TripAdvisor review blasting Ben Nevis as 'too high' leaves people in stitches

A hilarious review of the tallest mountain in the UK, in which the author says the climb isn't worth it as there's no café at the top, is leaving people in stitches

Image

A hilarious TripAdvisor review of the tallest peak in the UK calling it 'very steep and too high' has gone viral.

The 185 word description of Ben Nevis is completely negative as the author couldn't think of a single good thing to say about the mountain.

He complained that the climb was difficult, that his girlfriend was crying during the hike, and that when they got to the top there was no pub, restaurant, or toilet.

The author, who posts under the name GrimTraveller, said that at least the attraction was free, before adding: "I honestly couldn't imagine anyone - and I mean anyone - paying to climb this."

Image

The post reads: "After going up mount Snowdon by train in Wales I'd forgotten just how high some mountains can get. And they don't come much higher than this one - that's for sure. LOL!

"This was almost a FULL day's climbing and my girlfriend was crying at one point.

"When we did get to the top there was nothing there (Mount Snowdon has a pub, restaurant and toilets at its top).

"Luckily we had brought some sandwiches and drinks, so anyone else climbing this one - BE WARNED- there are NO facilities at the top."

Ben Nevis, in Scotland, is the highest peak in the UK, sitting at 4,409ft, or 1,345m, towering above Wales' highest mountain, Snowdon, which is 3,559ft, or 1,085m, and Britain's Scafell Pike, at 3208ft, or 978m.

The climb takes up to nine hours in total, depending on conditions and your level of fitness, and summer is the ideal time to tackle the summit as weather at the top can be changeable.

The review continues: "The climb basically went on for far too long and the last part was particularly steep and difficult.

"It was also cloudy at the top so the view was non-existent. The long walk back down was boring and again took too long.

"It was a great relief to get back to our B&B in Fort William for a hot soapy bath and the joys of a flushing toilet with soft toilet rolls.

"This attraction is free but I honestly couldn't imagine anyone - and I mean anyone - paying to climb this."

The review was posted in October 2014 and lampooned back in 2015, but it's been doing the rounds on social media again this week.

GrimTraveller, who has 12 followers on TripAdvisor, also slated Greenan Castle, in South Ayrshire, Scotland, describing it as 'a ruined castle with zero access', and The Helix in Falkirk, which was luckily 'easy to exit'.

But he loved his trip with Ocean Breeze Rib Tours, based in Lamlash on the Isle of Arran, describing it as 'the best two and a half hours of the year'.

German 'dead fraudster' exposed by pet poodle in Majorca

Image

A suspected German fraudster living in Majorca allegedly faked her own death, but her story had a rather obvious giveaway - her pet poodle.

The 47-year-old woman, arrested by Spanish police, is suspected of having embezzled around €1m (£866,000; $1.2m) from the German solar power firm she worked for, DPA news agency reports.

Private detectives hired by the firm sniffed around on social media and found that she owned a "giant" poodle.

Their dogged work led to her arrest.

The woman is now out on bail and has reportedly admitted having faked her own death.

The detectives tracked her down to a chic villa in Santa Ponça after spotting a man walking such a poodle, which is not a very common breed on the island.

The largest poodles are often called "giant" or "royal", but are in fact simply large standard poodles at least 38cm (15 inches) tall at the shoulder. The smaller ones are miniature or toy poodles.

On Wednesday, police in Majorca confirmed the details which were initially reported by the local daily newspaper Diario de Mallorca.

The story began in November when the woman was summoned to a court hearing in Palma, Majorca.

But suspicions were raised at the solar power firm she worked for in Rostock, north Germany, when her parents reported that she had died in a car crash in March 2020.

Police quoted by Diario de Mallorca said she had in fact been living in Majorca with false ID documents.

Fresh pizza vending machine prompts curiosity and horror in Rome

Image

Raffaele Esposito, the 19th century Neapolitan credited with inventing Italy’s most famous type of pizza, may be turning in his grave: Rome has a new vending machine which slides out freshly cooked pizzas in just three minutes.

Buyers using the flaming red "Mr. Go Pizza" machine can choose from four different kinds of pizzas costing from 4.50 to 6 euros ($5.2-7.2). The machine kneads and tops the dough and customers can watch the pizza cook behind a small glass window.

Reviews by customers on Thursday of the machine, one of the first in Rome, ranged from "acceptable if you're in a hurry" to outright horror.

"It looks good but it is much smaller than in a restaurant and there is less topping," said Claudio Zampiga, a pensioner.

People have been eating forms of flat bread with toppings for millennia, but it is generally accepted that pizza was perfected in Naples, where it was a street food for the poor.

Tradition holds that Esposito created the classic "Pizza Margherita" on June 11, 1889 to honour the queen consort, Margherita of Savoy, during her visit to Naples with King Umberto I.

He used tomatoes, mozzarella and basil leaves to represent the colours of the flag of a just united Italy - red, white and green. A plaque is affixed to a wall in Naples saying "Pizza Margherita was born here."

Fabrizia Pugliese, a Naples native and university student in Rome, gave the machine-made pizza a try and gave it a thumbs down, saying it tasted more like a "piadina", an ultra-thin soft unleavened bread wrap popular in northern Italy.

"It's OK but it's not pizza," was her verdict.

Gina, a pensioner who declined to give her surname, rejected the concept outright.

"Terrible. Pizza really needs to be eaten hot, immediately. This doesn't work for me," she said.

In fact, for many Italians, the classic pizza experience includes watching a "pizzaiolo," (pizzamaker) knead the dough and cooking it in a wood-burning brick oven within sight of your table.

In its current location, at least, the "Mr. Go Pizza" machine will face stiff competition getting a slice of the market.

Nearby is the Napolitano restaurant, which uses a brick oven.

"I wouldn't even think of eating a pizza made by a machine," said Giovanni Campana, biting into one.

Esposito, who made a pizza fit for a queen 132 years ago, would likely agree.

Missouri high school senior donates college savings after landing prestigious scholarship

Image

Joshua Nelson landed a full-ride scholarship to Southeast Missouri State University. Now the Missouri native wants to pay it forward by donating his college savings to another high school senior.

Nelson, a senior at St. Charles West High School, was one of only five students selected for the prestigious President's Scholarship at the university. A total of 288 people applied, according to the City of St Charles School District.

This scholarship, valued at $43,000, will cover tuition and boarding for four years as long as Nelson meets the annual renewal criteria, according to the university. And now that it's paid for, the 18-year-old decided to donate the $1,000 he saved for college to another student in need.

"I feel like it's important to be involved in your community and leaving a legacy," he told We Love St. Charles, a local non-profit community outreach organization. Nelson said he started The Joshua Nelson Leaders in Action Scholarship, which aims"to help multicultural students who are showing leadership, community service and just have great qualities in and out of the classroom."

Throughout his high school career, Nelson has held many leadership roles and engaged in helping other students succeed. He is the president for the school's Multicultural Achievement Council (MAC), a program that encourages historically under-represented students to maximize their academic potential and become college- and career-ready, according to the school's website.

He is also a member of the National Honor Society, the National Society of Black Engineers and the Black Student Union, according to the university. Outside the classroom, Nelson played on the school's varsity basketball team and tutored kids at the community's Boys and Girls Club.

Nelson is hoping that local businesses and others will feel inspired to match his starting donation so that the new scholarship can help several students. The fund is being managed through the school and the MAC program. Donors can give online through the school's website.

"I think he's an inspiration to some of the other people at the school especially students of color," Harmony Hudson, a classmate of Nelson, told CNN affiliate KDSK. "I don't even think he realizes that he's doing that much for everyone else as well."

Nelson will begin his undergraduate studies this fall at Southeast Missouri, where he will be enrolled in the biomedical sciences program. He plans on continuing his education as he pursues a career in optometry.

He told We Love St. Charles that his dream for The Joshua Nelson Leaders in Action Scholarship is for it to be funded for years to come.

'I want it to be disgustingly Canadian': New video game will let you roam Toronto as a raccoon

Image
A new video game will let users wander around Toronto as a raccoon.

TORONTO -- Do you feel like you’ve binged every series worth streaming? Has the latest lockdown exhausted all your indoor entertainment options? A video game, which is currently being developed, will let you skirt provincial stay-at-home orders while wandering the streets as a raccoon.

“Raccoons resonate with people. Everyone in the city has a raccoon story,” said Jason Leaver, describing the inspiration behind his work-in-progress game.

The 43-year old Scarborough resident is a filmmaker by trade, best known for an award-winning web series titled “Out With Dad.”

When movie sets shut down in the first wave of the pandemic, Leaver decided to dabble in coding. He’s been honing his debut video game, with a working title of Trash Panda, since February.

“You are going to walk around a neighbourhood that I'm modelling after typical Toronto neighbourhoods,” Leaver told CTV News Toronto.

“It’s garbage night, the raccoon’s favourite night of the week, and you are going to try and knock over as many garbage cans as you can. Sometimes you'll find food in there, so you'll get a chance to eat something. And that is the extent of the game thus far. You’re making a mess, and, and hopefully finding some goodies to eat.”

While the game is currently in its beta testing stages with a pending release date, Leaver says he’s already gotten world-wide feedback following gameplay progress posts on his social media accounts.

“A lot of people have been like ‘shut up and take my money.’ I’d like to add some garbage trucks with retractable claws. I want it to be disgustingly Canadian. So maybe the hero raccoon will have a tux. I've actually been working on a little AI raccoon, so it would be sort of like the your nemesis, maybe you want to race against another raccoon who is also knocking over garbage bins. I’m still new to game development, so maybe I make it free, maybe I make it 99 cents. It’s still a hobby project at this point.”

Canada’s largest city has a storied history with the destructive, yet adorable animals. In 2015 Mayor John Tory declared war on the critters, unveiling raccoon resistant garbage bins to the tune of $31 million dollars.

Earlier this year Toronto residents were warned to avoid raccoons at all costs, following a surge in attacks by the animals, which are known to carry rabies.

Given the city’s love-hate relationship with its unofficial mascot, a key narrative question lingers. Are we rooting for the game’s raccoon to wreak havoc? True to his filmmaking roots, Leaver lets the audience decide.

“I love that old saying how, in every movie, the villain believes they're the hero in their stories. So I mean, you're playing as the protagonist,
how you use your powers as a raccoon is up to you.”

Mums (finally) included on marriage certificates

Image

Marriage certificates in England and Wales will now include the names of both parents of each half of the couple, rather than just the father’s. Many will likely wonder why it has taken so long.

The change is part of a new digital system designed to simplify and expedite the process by which marriages are registered, helping to tackle a backlog that has built up during the pandemic.

The Home Office said the reform would “correct a historic anomaly”.

Murder suspect who used big-penis defense found not guilty

The Florida man who claimed his girlfriend choked to death during oral sex was found not guilty of second-degree murder Monday.

Richard Patterson, 65, of Margate, was acquitted of killing 60-year-old girlfriend Francisca Marquinez in 2015 after a week-long trial, according to the Sun Sentinel.

Image

Medical examiner throws cold water on murder suspect’s big-penis defense
During the trial, his lawyers initially argued that Marquinez died accidentally while performing oral sex on him at her apartment.

To bolster their defense, Patterson’s lawyers filed a motion to show his penis to the jury.

But after a medical expert testified that choking during the sex act was unlikely, the defense reversed course on the theory. The judge never ruled on the request to put Patterson’s member on display in court.

“That’s not the way she died,” defense lawyer Ken Padowitz said. “But that’s the way Richard Patterson thought she died.”

Instead, the defense argued that there was no way of knowing how she died. Medical examiners never determined the cause of death because Marquinez’s body was too decomposed.

“They still don’t know how she died,” said Padowitz, according to the Sun Sentinel.

The jury spent five hours deliberating before reaching a verdict.

If Patterson had been convicted, he would have faced life in prison.

Baby otter rescued by the side of a North Yorkshire road is "doing well"
Tuesday 20 April 2021, 11:40am *

An otter cub that was rescued from the side of a road in Pateley Bridge is making a good recovery with the RSPCA.

On Friday April 9, a member of the public spotted the otter which appeared to be stunned on Pie Gill in Heathfield, Pateley Bridge, and took the animal to a nearby vet.

The vet alerted the RSPCA, and animal rescue officer David Holgate took the otter to the Stapeley Grange Wildlife Centre near Nantwich in Cheshire. The centre is the charity's specialist hub for otter rehabilitation.

I have no idea why the otter was found at the road - and wonder if he may have been stunned possibly from a passing car. He certainly seemed to come round on the way to Stapeley Grange and seemed quite bright and alert so I am hoping it won’t be long before he can be released back into the wild. Rescuing and rehabilitating animals like this is such an important part of what we do as a charity.
David Holgate, RSPCA

The otter will be rehabilitated at the centre and once he has recovered he will be returned to the wild.

The RSPCA says the otter is doing well in their care. Credit: RSPCA

Lee Stewart, manager at Stapeley Grange, said, “It is always very exciting to have an otter cub with us as up until the 1970s they were struggling in the wild.

“They weren’t safe from being hunted until 1978, at which point numbers were low, but over time their numbers have steadily started to rise and they have made a comeback in most counties in the UK. As a result we are seeing more being brought into Stapeley Grange. Otter rehabilitation is very specialised and you need to have suitable facilities to care for them. Young otter cubs can be with us for up to 12 months before they can be returned to the wild so their care is not only time consuming but expensive.“

If a member of the public sees a wild animal in need of help, they can call the RSPCA’s emergency line on 0300 1234 999.

With cleavers and blowtorches, Pakistan barber offers hair-raising cuts

Hoping to prove a cut above the competition, Pakistani barber Ali Abbas relies on an unusual array of tools to practice his craft -- including blowtorches, meat cleavers, and even broken glass.

Abbas's fringe style is proving a hit in the conservative nation, with customers flocking to his shop in the eastern city of Lahore

Hoping to prove a cut above the competition, Pakistani barber Ali Abbas relies on an unusual array of tools to practice his craft -- including blowtorches, meat cleavers, and even broken glass.

Abbas's fringe style is proving a hit in the conservative nation, with customers flocking to his shop in the eastern city of Lahore.

He adds some layers with the help of a cleaver and butcher's block, while occasionally thinning out a thicker mane with a bit of broken glass.

"In the beginning, I tried it on artificial hair, and then -- after practising it for some time -- I used it on a client, and he liked it a lot."

His popularity has only grown since, resulting in television appearances and fashion shoots.

Abbas charges 2,000 rupees ($13) for the unorthodox treatment -- or 1,000 rupees for a traditional trim with scissors.

Abbas says he also enjoys a large number of women customers, who he charges an additional 500 rupees for extra styling.

"I prefer it to be done with a cleaver as my hair grows fast after," she added.

Pet kitten thought to be 'sick' turns out to be incredibly rare wolf-cat

Brianna Walton feared her pet kitten was seriously ill when her fur began to fall out, and was left baffled when vets revealed she was actually an extremely rare wolf-cat

Image

A cat owner was left gobsmacked when she discovered that her pet kitten was actually an incredibly rare wolf-cat.

Brianna Walton, 29, feared her seven-month-old kitten Gracie could be sick, after she started losing huge clumps of fur.

The cat lover, from Maine in the United States, was fostering two adult cats when one gave birth to a litter of kittens which contained Gracie.

Brianna, who works as a photographer, decided to keep hold of Gracie as a pet for herself, but at just five weeks old she realised something wasn't right when she began losing all of her fur.

"Gracie was about five weeks old when she started to lose facial hair," she recalled. "She then lost most of her hair completely over the next two weeks and I became very concerned that she was sick so I brought her to the vet.

“They did one look over with no tests and concluded it was probably a fever but that she was perfectly healthy otherwise and needed no further special attention.”

While Brianna was convinced her pet feline might've been suffering with some kind of undiagnosed illness, she was completely baffled when a vet said it was actually caused by a rare genetic mutation, making her a wolf-cat.

Image

Wolf-cats, which are also known as Lykoi, are domestic cats with just one coat of fur that molts every six months, leaving them with a striking resemblance to werewolves.

After learning that her cat is in fact healthy, Brianna started sharing clips of the unique looking feline on TikTok, and she quickly became a viral sensation, thanks to her unusual appearance.

"Gracie looks like a werewolf and I think that's the coolest," Brianna said.
