What is it? Trident is a board game and the object is to score more points than other players, by playing one, two or three number tiles crossword style on the board. Each set of 3 tiles must add up to 15.

How do you play?
Opening round:
  • Post here if you’d like to play. You must post in the opening round in order to play subsequent rounds.
  • The first round will be open for at least 24 hours, at the end of which players will be randomly assigned to a board with one, two or three other players.
Subsequent rounds:
  • Players will be given 3 numbers, via private message. These are not to be shown to anyone.
  • Posting order of players will be decided by the random generator and will remain the same for all remaining rounds.
  • When it is your turn you will post an image of the board (with any previous numbers posted showing) and with your number(s) also played, stating in your post what numbers you played and where (the location of at least one of your numbers needs to be posted so I know where to look for your points). Please also post what you believe the value of your number(s) is (this is only a guide and totals will be checked).
  • After all players have posted, I will post an update of the scores and will send each player a complete set of numbers that consist of replacement numbers and leftover numbers from the previous round so they always have 3 numbers (these are the only numbers you may play that round). Once there are only 10 numbers left, I will post the count in the updates.

Rules:
  • To begin the game, the player randomly assigned to play first will place one, two or three numbers, placing one of the numbers over the star in the centre of the board. The star is a double square and will offer a double number tile score.
  • All players following will build their numbers off of this number, extending the game to other squares on the board. (All numbers played must be played off of other numbers already on the board). Players must not make a 2x2 square from the first four tiles or a 3X3 from the first nine tiles as this brings the game to a premature halt.
  • 2 tiles side by side must total 15 or less and 3 tiles side by side must total EXACTLY 15 (There must never be more than 3 tiles side by side)
  • Number tiles will be sorted by the random generator and distributed in the order listed, this list is to be kept by me (the host) and are time stamped if anyone wishes to see the list (after the contest is complete).
  • Players can return 1,2, or 3 tiles to the bag and draw replacement ones in exchange for their turn but this is only permitted when there are more than five tiles remaining. The tiles will be returned and all the remaining tiles will be randomized again before replacing the tiles for that player. You must post that you are returning tiles and then the next player can play, you must send me a pm indicating which tiles you would like to return.
  • If a player can not play and does not wish to return any tiles they must post they have no play that round so the next player knows it is their turn to play. As a courtesy players should pm the next player letting them know they have made their play.
  • Number tiles are to be played horizontal or vertical...no diagonal sets.
  • Each player has 24 hours to post their numbers (24 hours after the player has posted before them), after 24 hours the next player in line may post and the previous player misses their turn for that round.
  • NO EDITING (even if you are the last poster). Editing may effect the next player who is trying to organize their own play. If you feel you added your points incorrectly do not worry, I double check them and you're posting them is just a guideline.
  • Points are scored by adding up the total value of the tiles: placing tile 2 next to a tile 4 is worth 6 points, placing tile 7 and 8, with the 7 above tile 2 would be worth 24 points (8 + 7 across and 7 + 2 down), click HERE for scoring samples.

Trios
When three tiles equal 15 this is called a Trio and scores a bonus of 15 points: For example, a 9 added to a 2 and 4 on the board scores 15 plus a bonus of 15 to total 30 points.

Triton Bonus
If a player’s tiles on their rack add up to 15 and they place all three on the board in one go, this is called a Triton and earns a further bonus of 50 points.

  • There are 83 tiles that are used in the game and 81 of them will contain the numbers 0-15. There are 2 Joker tiles (star tiles) that can be used as wild tiles to take the place of any number.

  • The quantity of individual tiles is as follows: 0's - 9, 1's - 9, 2's - 8, 3's - 8, 4's - 7, 5's - 8, 6's - 6, 7's - 6, 8's - 4, 9's - 4, 10's - 3, 11's - 3, 12's, - 2, 13's - 2, 14's - 1, 15's - 1, Jokers - 2.

Double/Triple squares
Double Scores - The gold squares in the board, when these are used, they will double the value of the tile placed on that square. (If a Triton is played it will double the points of the Trio).
Triple Score - The red squares in the board will be worth triple the value of the tile placed on that square. (If a Triton is played it will triple the points of the Trio).
One Single Use - When using the extra point squares on the board, they can only be used by one player, and only for one set of numbers. If a player places a number here and it creates a set 2 ways, it cannot be used as a multiplier both ways.

BIS squares (otherwise known as the keep your BUTTS IN your SEATS squares)
The player who places a tile over this square posts their play and counts their score for that turn, they must post they have a BIS play, large and bold at the bottom of their post, the next player must keep their "Butts In their Seats" while this player pm's me and is awarded replacement numbers and they get to post again. I will post that the BIS replacement tiles have been sent and that player has 24 hours to post.

Joker tiles
"They can replace any tile but have no scoring value, except when making a Trio and can be used to form a Triton but do not earn the 50 points bonus. Two jokers cannot be placed in one turn.
Once the Joker is played it retains its nominal value, but has no scoring value."

The End of a Trident contest
Once all tiles are gone and a single player has placed all of their tiles, the game will end.

Tallying Trident Scores
The unplayed tile values of all remaining players on that board will be added to the score of the player that ended the contest to produce the final score for the game.

  • Winner is determined by who has the most points.
  • 1st Place - 300 WRZ$
  • 2nd Place - 250 WRZ$
  • 3rd Place - 200 WRZ$
  • 4th Place - 150 WRZ$

9+6X2 = 21 - sorry you can not claim the double for the 6 again as Miajohn already claimed this - your total is 15 - Ice
9+5 +1 +15 (trio bonus) = 30

Total= 51 points

Total points is 45 - Ice
Please remember to mark the location of at least one of your players so I know were to look for your play (this will get really difficult in future rounds for me)
