Still getting my caffeine fix. :D

Oh, that idea of yours about putting coffee filters in the cafetière works. In a way. I wasn't going to go out and buy a custom made job - the price was a bit silly (I normally get a thousand for a tenner). So I made one. My filters are essentially 10" discs with fluted sides. I flattened one out, poured the coffee grounds in the centre and folded the paper to make a sort of tea bag. Epic fail there. After ten minutes the hot water was still hot water. The grounds needed more room. Second try was much better. I folded the edges up to make a teardrop shape, then tied them off with an elastic band. Unfortunately, the coffee ended up testing like filter coffee, rather than cafetière coffee. Might as well uses the filter machine really. But it did make the clean up less detrimental to the plumbing. :D

WD, enjoy your espresso! :D

Hiemmy, sounds like you did your best! :D
I agree, just stick to the cafetiere. Less hassle.
I tried to see it they sold those special filters here but haven't had any luck yet.
Next I'll try the department stores.

Online is the only place I've found them.

The importer just gave me this sort of 'that does not compute,' look and walked away scratching his head...

Hi, Ice!

Maybe the guy doesn't use a french press?
I guess you wouldn't think about using a filter when the plunger itself is a filter.

Well. I never did!

On the other hand, it's a very traditional company. If you mention espresso to them they give you a sort of pitying look.

 Mention one of those pod machines and they'll show you the door. :D

I have a Italian mocha pot that I use for making coffee, I do have the French press as well but I prefer using the French press for brewing green tea or if I want a cold brewed coffee

Very traditional? Sounds more like old fashioned.

 Well, I can see their point. Coffee needs to be treated gently if you want to retain the flavour.

I have doubts that turning it into tar could be described as a gentle process.

Diva: Nearly bought one of those a few weeks ago after breaking the cafetière. Some of the models I saw did look very Dalek like. Hmmm.. Are they difficult to clean?

WD, one of my college friend's husband is Italian and he used something like that to make espresso. It was delicious.
They're usually pretty small, right? I guess you'd have to make it in batches to have enough coffee to last you all day.

If you are doing something do it right that's my motto

I have huge arguments with my friend in UK about the best method to make coffee which according to him is a cafetiere aka the french press and I always say it's the Moka pot, those Italians know what they are doing :D

Lessa, you get them in diff sizes, I have a 2 cup and a 6 cup both ... depends on how many cups you need to make you do get them in various capacities and colors :)
