So I was at the hospital yesterday for my pre-anaesthetic (omg, i spelled that word right the first try woo!) appointment and my phone rings while i'm waiting. So I decline the call, because it's rude, and they left a voicemail. I got this automated voice telling me to call them back on their number or they will "issue a warrant for your arrest UNDER YOUR NAME" - like bitch, if you don't know my name, clearly you ain't trying to arrest me. Not that I've ever done anything wrong in my entire existence as it is, but crikey, scam callers are so pathetic. It was an 02 number for other Aussies in this thread.
Mum and my next door neighbour listened to the voicemail as well and were shocked as heck. It was kind of amusing.

Star I got one of those scam calls the other day saying they were from the taxation department and I owed them money if I didn't pay they would issue a warrant for my arrest considering I'm retired looking after my grandchildren no pay involved i just laughed arrest away lads bring it look after yourself star

The swindlers are kind of stupid. We got these kinds of calls here as well, sometimes they would say, “your son is being under arrested, you need to deposit money to the bank account immediately to get him released, otherwise they would put him in jail.” Unfortunately, many parents would fall for that

star post the number i do i always reverse look up the number first then if it is a scam i add it to my blocked number under spam 1 23456 etc
I had one ring me up asking if i had an accident and that i owed him money i told him you your the one who rear ended me and you owe me the money i am so glad you called as i lost your number so when will you pay me??? then he says what do you mean i say well it is how you got my number i gave it to you at the time of the accident i have been waiting all this time for you to pay he quickly hangs up. (thinking i have a live one here) as for the others asking for money i always act polite and contrite i am so sorry what was your account number and i will transfer the money immediately then they want western union or some other way ei credit card i say i dont have one and i insist on their bank account information some actually give it i pass it on to the A.T.O and the telecommunications ombudsman when i am in a bad mood the usual answer is the F***k off and hang up version. other times the wolf like to play
so i am back from Satan's safe and i cant say sound but tripping. oh the joys of explaining the nbn coming to his area and fees and the rest needless to say KILL ME NOW!!!!

How did you identify the exact year?

My favorite trick in the early days of scam calls was to talk very "quiet" so that they could barely hear me... and then after a few seconds of them asking "what did you say"... I would use an air horn and give them a blast to blow their ears out

Now I just use caller Id, and I don't pick up. If it's important, they can leave a message.

Ada, yeah, just a gynaecological procedure. Might be in overnight, but I'm not sure yet. It's set for the 16th (so I definitely won't be around for a few days).
Katy - I think that's the exact one I got - but because it went to voicemail, I missed the first part of whatever the recorded spiel was.
Matina - I've had those ones, too. They used to call the house phone, but since the NBN, we don't have one of those anymore. I just tell them that no one here has had an accident and they hang up. But I definitely need to do what you did!

Rather cold up here today, only 6 degrees at 6 pm and very windy . . . so it feels colder. I think the top today was about 14 degrees. Bright and sunny since lunch, but the message is that winter is coming.

I get quite a few regular scam calls on my land line, especially the one about having your NBN cut off. Most are recorded messages, so I hang up immediately. The 'live' call I received a few weeks ago was told that the internet was proving to be a nuisance so feel free to cut off my NBN. The guy didn't reply but just hung up!

Star, hope you'll feel better soon. John, fingers crossed for a successful Yankees season.

i get them all the time. a particular one i have gotten twice is a young male and when i answer he says "grandma". so the caller has to chance that you have an older teen male grandchild. "your" grandson goes on to tell you he is in trouble and needs you to wire money. come on! once the kid is going through the story , unless you are totally aged, hArd of hearing or dementia, you wold recognize your grandson's voice
