Greetings, everyone . . . didn't really get going very early this morning, since it's Saturday and I have nothing special to do today.

Above photo shows the gate of the old Carrington Hotel, which I had to walk past in order to get to my optometrist in Katoomba. It looked very spooky in the mist. Rumour has it that there are secret tunnels underneath . . .

matina, good luck with your father and the optometrist. I spent $2150 for a special lens for my left eye, which had the worst cataract, but am hoping that the ordinary lens in my right eye will be free, after I've waited long enough in the Medicare queue. You have to take care of your eye after the op, so I hope your father can manage this . . .

Katy, this morning wasn't a good time to be flying around the mountains, either in airplanes or as a fluffy cat, but now it's stopped raining and the sun has been in and out. Lots of cockies still here, plus the usual rosellas. Fuzzies are enjoying some bird watching. Rishi really likes the little birds, especially the various pigeons. The cockatoos tend to scare her a bit. I think most people still don't know how much that new airport is going to change things . . . but I guess it's still a few years away.

Am going to take it easy today and do the few final things I need to do with my nice, new computer, before I pack up the old one and put it away for safe keeping. If the rain holds off, I might also take a little walk.

PJ he manages the lumigan eye drops for his glaucoma OK so i don't see a problem with that i do however see a problem with him wanting to pay. plus i am hesitant in him having the surgery in his good eye as if he has any complications and it worsens the vision which as you well know can happen in a variety of complications then he will be virtually blind. so further discussion is needed and research and go from there.

matina, I hope all goes well with your father's proposed cataract op. If he's on the Medicare waiting list, as an Age Pensioner, like I am . . . then it really should be completely free. It's a worry to have the op done on the good eye. My eye doctor warned me (as they always do) that there's a small (less than 1%) chance of something going seriously wrong. Tending to your eye after the operation is a bit more involved than I expected, but really not too hard. It was about two weeks before I was more or less 'normal' . . . so to speak.

Yesterday I forgot to tell everyone my good (internet) news . . . I was driving home from the optometrist and saw a guy working on the spot where I knew (from earlier NBN workers) the new NBN node was installed. It's just around the corner from my house, less than 100 metres from my driveway. So I stopped and had a chat, and he showed me his paper 'working list' for the day. My address was one of 40 or so houses that he had just hooked up to the new node. So I hurried back to my computer and ran a speed test . . . Yay! My main download speed has now gone from about 16 Mbps up to nearly 48 Mbps. More amazingly, my upload speed has gone from just over 1 Mbps to nearly 19 Mbps. Now, I realise that these speeds may not be outstanding for some of you, but a tripling of my internet speed is quite a boon to yours truly, out here in the mountains.

It's been raining all day..plus the electricity was out.. managed to see a movie though, Detective Pikachu..the trailer seemed promising, so settled on that. Reading has rubbed off on me lately and now I have a newfound interest in movies. Tell me what were the latest movies you people saw(it doesn't have to be new or anything btw)

Good morning, everyone. Have been answering e-mails today (Sunday) and generally just taking it easy. Rishi has got up from her nap on my knees and is now watching parrots from her usual spot on the windowsill.

matina, am in constant touch with my niece in the US concerning my brother and his wife. Latter is still not recovering well from her big operation. Will ring them again tonight, when it's Sunday morning their time (14 hours behind eastern Oz time).

Katy, Rishi is indeed very cute and likes to snuggle up now. She's calmed down, now that she's older. Windy up here today and about 9 degrees. Feels colder than that, though, so I didn't venture out into my garden this morning. Tried to catch up on correspondence with an old friend and it was therapeutic for me to write about what's been going on.

MiaJohn, Rishi is sometimes surprised when I put down her 'pillow' but is otherwise quite patient with me. Sometimes she sleeps on my bed at night, often on the pillow next to my head. Sunnya is a bit more independent, currently asleep on the windowsill, with crimson rosellas eating just a few centimetres from her head!

Kathy it is a good movie there was a tv series made after the movie it went 2 seasons and it got axed.

Enjoying a near-perfect winter's day up here in the mountains . . . sun shining and not a cloud in the sky!

Katy, yes, you couldn't ask for a better day. Lots of cockatoos and rosellas have finished brunch on the front deck and have departed for the golf course, where they have to work a bit harder for their food. Fuzzies are settling in for their afternoon naps. I talked to my brother last night at 10 pm, which was 8 am his time. His wife will have to have the IV feeding tube in her arm for a long time to come, or else go into the hospital. She just can't seem to eat. But yesterday her antibiotic was finished and they've given her some kind of appetite-enhancing pill. (I suspect it has THC in it, because cannabis is legal in their state.) So we're all hopeful that she'll start putting on some weight. It's a worry. They're so far away and there's absolutely no chance of my flying over to see them, like I did back in 2017.

Diva, my fuzzies are far from flying right now, after eating very solid and filling breakfasts! They're really earth-bound and sound asleep!
