Hi all!!

PJ - we will never get as hot as Oz, thank gawd, but it has been really, really humid, which is unusual b/c my part of Canada is dry... the night sky has been rumbly and grumbly a lot, and we have had 4 tv emergency weather alerts, it's unusual for us to get one in the summer, so 4 of them is just unheard of... it's just been really weird weather...

I'm a fan of celtic rock... I was on Tiktok and there was a trend I just found (I'm probably 2 years behind but oh well)... it was a really catchy snippet so I googled the lyrics, and it turns out the band is from the next province over. If you like that type of music check out the song...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FzjCOz4Z2fI&list=RDFzjCOz4Z2fI&start_radio=1

They also have a song called The Last Saskatchewan Pirate, and I'm like... THAT'S WHERE I'M FROM!!! As you can imagine Saskatchewan doesn't get mentioned a lot in song (or tv, for that matter, although there was a Murder She Wrote that mentioned Saskatchewan). We're usually the punchline... cuz I mean, come on, we have a town called Moose Jaw, so it's not like we aren't asking for it... us and the newfies... lol...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MHvqBVby_io&list=RDFzjCOz4Z2fI&index=4
...and beside any song that says "screw the G.S.T." is a keeper...

Yesterday's view from my house . . .

matina, how are you going today? How was your time with your visitors? Freezing cold and howling wind up here in the mountains today. Not even a thought about sitting out in my backyard. Even Sunnya didn't venture out! Central heating on . . . Listening to a podcast sent to me from my conspiracy friend (not the bushwalking friend in Lithgow who doesn't believe in black panthers), telling me that the 'Pilgrim Society' is controlling the world. I must look it up. However, I tend to be sceptical. I have enough worries about the Blue Mountains City Council. My other friend believes that Vladimir Putin is here to save the universe. Oh, dear! What a world we live in . . . Seems like it was so much simpler when I was sleeping on beaches in Mytilene, with hardly a care in the world. But I'm not going to worry too much . . .

Katy, yes, I do feel grateful to have done so many things in my 73 years. Travelled a lot. Done a great many things, some of which might well have been big mistakes. But . . . would I change anything? I guess not. I have a wonderful son and two wonderful grandchildren . . . that's something I would never change. Must stop this philosophical drift and get back to thinking about my fuzzies and what I have to buy at the supermarket this afternoon! Hope you had a good weekend and enjoyed your family. Had a good talk with my niece in Maine last night. They're all well there.

FreezeMe, it might make your hair curl to hear what I was up to in those distant, golden Greek island days, when I went on to stay in Afghanistan and ashrams in India . . . not to mention hitch-hiking through the outback, down from Darwin! Not recommended! Don't try this at home, kids! Wouldn't be good for my grandchildren to hear this . . . they should just finish uni and live happy lives! Anyhow, stay well and enjoy your trip. Always good to do these things when you're young . . . as the years go by, we tend to settle down a bit too much.

Bye, everyone . . . apologies for the philosophical overtones today . . .

HELLO ALL!
HOME DAY keeping to myself today returned a few emails got some good news concerning mum's e bed so that's great. I will elaborate more another time.
Kristina why don't you buy bread olives cheese sundried tomatoes and the Greek fritz they are great snacks and meals to have & yogurt eggs from the super market keep them in your fridge and make sandwiches omelettes pasta you can make yourself by boiling it then add pasta sauce to it. fresh tomatoes cucumbers lettuce etc you can make your own salads with some crusty bread yummy. canned beans and an onion with some either mayonnaise or vinegar olive oil dressing makes a Greek salad or side dish with some fried fish or canned tuna or oysters. eating at restaurants is expensive. hope this helps.
PJ glad to hear the Maine family is well, and the girls are ok too ahhhh yes all sorts of conspiracy theory's the pandemic brought millions of them out of the wood work.
KATHY thank you for always being my rock love you sister.
Stretton i will check out the music tomorrow and give you my honest opinion of it ;-) thanks for sharing
time for dinner. be safe take care and god bless you all thank you for being my friends and i'm letting you know id be lost without you all you are all appreciated and loved thank you!

Photo above was taken a few days ago on my front deck . . . lots of rosellas around lately . . . weather has become very cold and windy.

matina, more to report today . . . my next door neighbour, my daughter-in-law, a very old friend whom I worked with for decades . . . but I'll leave it all for now. Started the day very, very positively. Rishi has been 'talking' lately . . . saying whole 'sentences' like 'meemiiimeemi' every so often. She looks well and isn't in pain. Just the opposite. Seems to be in very good spirits. But I've never heard her 'talk' so much. Shopping and then a nap. Fire going now.

Stretton, sorry I missed your last post. Hope your part of Canada gets back to 'normal' temperatures soon. That's already happened in Maine, based on my usual Sunday phone call. Sure to get nice and cold for you in the months ahead. I always think of Joni Mitchell when I hear of Saskatchewan, even though I've never visited that part of Canada. Years ago I met an Australian WWII vet with the RAAF who served with the RCAF in Saskatchewan during the winter, and he said it was the coldest weather he ever experienced in his life! I always remember his story.

matina, our mountain temperature has just shot up to 9 degrees, but I still have my house'scentral heating set to 'low' for the fuzzies and myself. My daughter-in-law had a nose operation about a week ago, and suffered from too much bleeding. Sounds like the same problem faced by my bushwalking friend in Lithgow, who has trouble with a deviated septum. Anyhow, she's recovering well now. Didn't tell me about it, of course. Looking forward to seeing my French repair guy tomorrow, when he'll finish all the long-waiting repair jobs, inside and out.

Katy, hard to believe that we were once young, isn't it? For years I used to work with a guy who was one of the managers, and when he'd see what the young staff were up to, he'd always say, 'Oh, to be young again!' Yes, I was surprised to hear that Putin had become a kind of super hero, but haven't looked it up on the internet. My friend sent me lots of e-mails but I didn't really read them. Now, today, we're hearing what Scomo was up to, closer to home, during the covid pandemonium. What a world! Glad we're living in peaceful places.

Bye for now, everyone . . .

Joni Mitchell is definitely an icon, i looked her up to see what she was up to... boy she's been awarded a lot of things, hasn't she? Well deserved I say...

Do home repairs ever end? lol... glad I'm renting I got tired of dealing with all that stuff... very time consuming... ohhh and the yard work, yuck... but then I also miss owning a house for other reasons... so pros and cons...

Katy - I'll check them out! :D

They say that Putin is sick, so not sure he'll be around much longer to 'save the universe' Has he started yet?

Stretton, Joni was born in Saskatoon (I think) in 1943 and is really one of the most notable people to come out of Saskatchewan. Since 2015, when she suffered a brain aneurysm, she's effectively been retired but maintains an interest in environmental and other concerns. She's always been one of my idols. Yes, over recent years she's been receiving a great many well-deserved awards. One of the most original guitarists of all time. I found the photo above and it made me a bit sad, because I remember her from her younger years. Don't quote me on Putin! My conspiracy-minded friend sends me all kinds of crazy things, nearly every day!

Yup, I do know who Joni Mitchell is, i just hadn't heard much about her in a while... you're right that picture is a bit of a shock, isn't it... passage of time hits us all, unfortunately... :(

I was kinda being tongue in cheek about Putin, he does appear to be sick though when you watch him walk, which is why I think he started the war when he did, it was a case of now or never... and as the saying goes he woke up and chose violence...

Anyway, bedtime for me... night all!!

matina, Rishi and Sunnya have mainly been hiding this morning, because of the hard-working French repair guy (who is married and has five children). Sunnya has stayed under the stairs and Rishi has mostly been under the bed. However, Rishi came out to investigate for a while. The repair guy tried to talk to her, but she's retreated downstairs again! Hope your knee is feeling better today.

Katy, yes, Joni Mitchell's songs were like a soundtrack for my life. She's six years older than I am and I know most of her wonderful songs quite well. For the past ten years, her health has been declining a lot. 'Pave paradise and put up a parking lot.' 'Late last night I heard the screen door slam.' 'Amelia, it was just a false alarm.' 'The wind is in from Africa; last night I couldn't sleep.' She and her friends were camping out on the Greeks islands a year or two before I was there. So many phrases from her songs remain with me. Hope things go well with the podiatrist.

Have been talking with my repair guy on and off. Will take a few photos of the work later, after he's gone. Right now he's fixing the various downpipes off the back deck. The ruined laundry ceiling and wall are all fixed! Screens fixed! Am so pleased that it's all being done. Front deck cleaning next. Cockatoos will have to take off soon. Will come back later with updates.

Poor little Rishi had to stay close to the stairs today, so that she could run and hide whenever the repair guy came back to the house. In this photo, her sister Sunnya is already under the stairs!

matina, yes! All my repairs done! I'm so happy! Even the front deck was pressure cleaned. Glad your mother is enjoying her recliner. I'm sitting in mine right now. It's not an expensive one, but I do like it.

FreezeMe, don't worry about Putin. There are so many conspiracy theories going around today, that no-one knows what is what. Hope you're feeling better soon. Posted another cute picture of Rishi above. (She's now sound asleep on the couch, near the fire.)

Good night, everyone . . .
