Just an idea...
Inspired by the ability to sell points in the Please Reply rankings.. I was wondering if it should be allowed to sell points in any ranking. In most games (daily dice for example), being the points leader gets you an extra reward.. Well, how about if people could sell points to let others be leader?

I like that idea :D

We do this in a certain way. Buying points brings you higher in the ranking, and highest in ranking have most chance to be in a group with fast replying mostly online players, thus be most likely part of one of the five WRZ$ winning groups.

jamesjunkers was talking about other games, Daily Dice, for example (where the person with the most wins gets a bonus payment under certain conditions)

I like the idea too, but it would make a lot of work for the mods if people did it much :)

I can see it making sense for the Please Reply game. It gives a chance for newer members who are now regulars to have a decent shot at winning too. But for something like the picture guessing game (and the United Colors threads, etc) where it takes more effort than just replying to a thread, I would hate to see someone lose their top ranking because someone paid their way to the top.

Edit: Actually, I think I like it ONLY for the Please Reply game. Paying your way up does not guarantee you an automatic win or automatic WRZ. But for those other games, it would. I'm not a fan of that.

I wouldn't mind it at all. :)

On second thought I agree with you. It would turn a game into an auction.

I'm with awshucks.
Not only would it mean a lot more work for the mods, but buying your way to the top to earn even more WRZ$ would mean that newbies and others who don't have accumulated enough will never get a chance at being on top. Many depend on how lucky you are or how often you are online and that is what most are willing to gamble for.
Looking at the section auctions (ebooks, movies) it is obvious only the ones with enough WRZ$ ever make it.

i wouldn't pay for getting up in the ranking, because i have enough wrz$ and i play mostly for fun. and since i don't keep the wrz$ i get for being the 1st in the ranking of a game i wouldn't care one way or the other.
still i think that avoran was right when he said it would mean a lot more work for the mods.

Yep, I agree
Much too much work for the already amazing mods, plus buying your way does sound bad..

Just thought I'd throw it out there

I just had a PM exchange with someone who doesn't want to play PR and was - mildly and politely :) - annoyed about getting PM's.

It seems to me there should be a way for people to really opt out of the game. More than just relegated to the bottom of the list with their names marked as "don't want PM's" but actually deleted from the list so that they don't show up at all, annoying both them and the other players who get stuck with them. They could always come back if they change their mind.

Technically, there shouldn't even be any reason why their accumulated points couldn't be saved in case they change their mind. As far as I can see, all that's required is for Guy's "data base" to have 2 sections, active and inactive. The "inactive" list could cover both people who don't like the game (and may well never change their mind) and people who just want to bow out for some period of time, for whatever reason.

If it looks like this privilege is being abused and so creating too much extra work for Guy, he could set a minimum time period (you can't opt out for less than, say, one week) and/or charge a modest "fee" (say 25 WRZ) for re-entering the game after opting out (sorry, that's my inner economist leaking out - but it would work).

well, i take/took that into account every time i sent a pm for that game, always asking the person to tell me if in the future s/he doesn't wanna get any. none said that :D, but i would have made a list to know which don't want to get pms or play and never bothered them again. still until now all the people in my team were people i new from this section and they liked to play. this round was different, i had members i didn't know so i specifically told them to talk to guy if they have any objections about playing this game or any game for that matter ;)

I guess that's possible, but it seems like unnecessary work when Guy could do it just once

well, he won't know who doesn't want to play if that person doesn't take the time to say so in a pm.

If they can't be bothered to do that even once then they have no right to be annoyed. ;)

But I wasn't talking so much about those people. I was talking about those who DO say so but still don't get properly dropped from the list. Or those who want to drop out temporarily but lose all their points - not an ideal solution either.
