Yes Yes we all know the words ... but most of us choose not to use them in a public forum

We do have a rule here for people like you...it's called "Flaming" and you will get banned for it.

Please accept this as a gentle warning...you'll only get one :)

So stop antagonizing the users and just be a pleasant part of the community like everyone else

realized that the crotchety old Druid in residence (I won't name names, but his name starts with Sher, and ends Lockx) may have some issue with name seeming to be making fun of him.

Then I thought, "What The Hell..."

Zackddog has got it wrong again must be senility really catching up.
I keep telling him it is Grumpy Old Druid not Crotchety Old Druid
Now remember for the future Zackddog it is GOD not COD

It looks like the intro post is ready - could one of the hosts please "sticky" it to the main forum menu?

Avoran. Great job on the "Welcome to the Contests" post. Very smart looking.

I was wondering whether it might be a good idea to change the name to
" How To make More WRZ$"
That seems to be quite common question from a lot of newcomers.
They know there are contests but don't realize that this is how to make the WRZ$.

Good point :) The final decision belongs to the forum mods, not me.

Avoran, you did an excellent job compiling and categorizing a list of the contests here. Good Job!

To get more members, especially new members, aware of your introduction to the contests section, I'd like to offer two suggestions.

In the announcements forum, there is a thread WRZ$ System.
This thread provides information on earning WRZ through posting and releases. There is a line there that says "Competitions- From time to time the staff will stage competitions which may include WRZ$ rewards." but no further information is given. So even if a new member finds that post, they don't know where to go for the competitions. Being as they are called competitions and not contests, it may not be obvious to go to the contests forum.
It might be helpful to have "competitions" changed to "contests" and to add a link in the post that would go either to the contests forum OR to the "Welcome to the Contests Forum!" post.

There is a thread Services and Returns for WRZ$ that details what you can "spend" your WRZ$ on.
Perhaps at the bottom of the post, there could be a line added that says something along the lines of "Need more WRZ$? Visit our contests section" - again with a link going to the contests forum OR to the "Welcome to the Contests Forum!" post
If members knew they could use WRZ$ for specific purchases, they may be more motivated to play contests to earn WRZ$ and work toward a goal of saving up for something they may want, like PM increases or VIP status.

Cheers!

Also very good ideas. Wouldn't the mods have to do that?

I believe so, yes.

Still, I'm making the suggestion here not only so they see it but also to get feedback from others as to if it would be helpful or not. :)

About Chain Gang again:

I'm thinking it would be a good idea to limit the game to one new round per day (unless a round is terminated at 5 or less posters). That would 1) ease my workload somewhat and 2) make it less attractive to rush through with a smaller chain, since players would know the next round may not come up right away.

Thoughts?

If you were to limit it to one day, would you do it the same time each day, or change it up? It's pretty impossible for some to catch entry, and one a day would cut that percentage even more. Just saying.

Good point. I would have to make sure I launched at different times of day, the same way the other contest mods do.

McJalm wrote:I suggested awhile back (several days ago) that perhaps you might start TWO identical chains, at the same time and everything else staying the same. Players could play only ONE of the chains and specify in their post which chain that is. Perhaps you might call each chain by some idiotic name, each time changing only the chain names so people would have to pay attention to each new round.

E.g., Poodles vs. Huskies, Science vs. Arts, Dots vs. Dashes…

E.g., posts for one round, say Dots vs. Dashes:

Dashes: humdinger - isis - johnnylately - juniper - kallie

Dots: kthulhu - mehr - miserly

In that way, more people might be able to participate, the chains would run longer and there'd be less work for you.

I like the idea a lot, for the reasons you say, but am worried that it would really confuse people. Still, I'm not going to toss it out just yet...

I would worry that two chains in the same thread would cause the chains to break sooner just by the confusion of it.
It's confusing enough for new players, and even those of us who play regularly sometimes break chains by posting too close to others who posted at the same time, thus winding up posting out of order.

If it was two separate threads like the gambling games have "tables" that would be less likely to cause confusion - but for all that it may be easier just to do two rounds a day rather then two chains at the same time.

Except that doesn't have the advantage of forcing openings for new players.

You could treat it like Daily Dices. It runs once a day for sure, twice a day sometimes, and thrice a day when we are very lucky. That'll keep people on their toes and relieve the pressure on you.
