exactly the same for me. I didn't notice the rule at first, and then it wasn't possible to edit. :(

Anyway, the game was kind of crazy! :) I think it worked better the way Guy did it in the Hunting special, where you had to wait a certain length of time rather than wait for a certain number of posts. Yes, it slowed down the game, but it made it possible for Guy to post updates before too many moves had gone by.

The average length of a chain is still 11.3.

I was just asked the following question in a PM:

Just now another case of same first letter posting in CG... Could cases of same time same letter be considered ok since we cannot see who else posts at same time?

I'm inclined to say yes, as long as exactly the same minute shows up on the post. Agreed?

The Magic 8 ball says, "Yes, Naomi agrees." :)

So where would that leave the rest of the chain

In this instance AD posted last so I can still post (but I can't because AW already posted) :?

Maybe if a double post happens, no one else can post that has that letter, and the chain continues as normal. (still counting the two that had the double post)
That is, if the chain is broken because of said double post.

THIS chain is already broken because we can't change rules in mid-game.

Unless there are strong objections, starting from the next round I will add a rule that says if two or more people post at exactly the same time (logged minute) their posts are taken to have come in whatever order does NOT break the chain.

That won't eliminate all accidental breaks, but it should cut down on them. And it shouldn't open the door to people who have already missed the boat. ;)

I'm inclined to agree. It is an issue when posters post at same time and cannot see that someone else is or just posts at the same minute. Sadly it causes a broken chain if out of order.

If the mods would restore the display of posts while you are or were typng in a post before recording yours this would be less of an issue. But it remains a possibility when posting.

But I wil go with what Av decided or the majority opinion.

I don't know... I think posting at the same time is part of the fun and unpredictability of it... It makes it more tense and funny imo and adds a luck factor to it...

I also hated that other rule about second letters (glad that it is gone), I just felt we may as well have a thread where people go and post their own names whenever they want and we reward them for that...

Anyway, just my opinion.

Interesting to hear a negative opinion. :)

I'm not much of a fan of the 'luck and unpredictability' idea myself, but that's a matter of taste, not right or wrong. And I can see merit in the idea that if you want to avoid accidental breaks it would help to co-ordinate better with known posters who are on line.

So, with 2 arguments in favour of the status quo, let's leave things as they are for now and make the change, if at all, starting with round 71. Who knows, maybe by then the "new post" warnings will be back. :)

In the meantime, anybody with an opinion on this, please feel free to keep the discussion going!

I tend to agree with K7...it is supposed to be a contest after all and we all get skipped and we can all post out of order even if it isn't our fault, isn't that the nature of the chain? Chains get broken *shrugs* its part of the game.

I will just hope my luck changes for Chain Gang. Do have a suggestion for Rush Hour. Not sure how practical it will be.

I'm not sure if this type of rule or bandaid (doesn't really fit in the rule box) would weigh it too much in favor of the frenzied potential conga line participants but---can a person putting in a number correct people who are less clear about where the tally is.

Example: First 15 people say their numbers right.

Cat: 16
Bird: 16
Dog: 18
Rat: 20
Tick: 20
Ant: 21?

Confusion has built up. Sake of argument, fifty seven minutes have gone by and the numbers are getting close. We'll say it should reach 40. Last one I remember trying to join had 40 as benchmark.

Owl: 38. (Bird-17, Rat- 19, Centipede 26)

Owl tried to straighten out the madness. Last two people make it photo finish. I guess it wouldn't work because of page breaks and stuff but in my limited experience of trying to join a couple of these, the question marks and Jackson Pollock number branding are killing those hour attempts. This might be a way to help that. Probably not but---eh I'll see if this makes sense to anyone else and stop rambling now.

I'm not sure what you mean. If the numbers get mixed up it makes things harder for the mod but doesn't otherwise change anything. And the reward doesn't just go to the first 40 posters (in your example) but to anyone who posts within the hour.

OK but it usually doesn't reach the 40. Or it hasn't in my brief tenure as junior junior junior Mobilism person. That's the minimum it needs to reach in that example. To get there though, people need to post quickly.

I guess what I was getting at was that with the ? marks and need for speed, some people might throw their hands up and not bother posting. Repeating numbers also make it seem like collective is further back than they actually are.

It won't change anything though is what you're saying since the mod has to tally at the end regardless. I didn't know that but makes sense. Ok. Sorry for gobble De guck :p
