Congratulations, avoran! It took you 9 questions to uncover the Truth!
Pravda (Russian: Правда, "Truth") is a Russian political newspaper associated with the Communist Party of the Soviet Union [CPSU] and, following the dissolution of the USSR, the Communist Party of the Russian Federation [CPRF].
The newspaper began publication in 1903 as a journal of arts, literature and social life, with no political orientation. Pravda became an organ of the Central Committee of the CPSU beginning in 1912 and quickly emerged as a leading Soviet newspaper after the October Revolution. During the Cold War, Pravda was well known in the West for its pronouncements as the official voice of the CPSU.
After the collapse of the USSR, Pravda was sold off by Russian President Boris Yeltsin. The CPRF acquired the newspaper in 1997 and established it as its official mouthpiece. Pravda still functions from the same headquarters in Moscow where it was published during the Soviet era, albeit with significantly diminished staff, readership, and impact. During the Soviet era it was a daily newspaper but today it publishes three times a week.
A note on the Questions and Answers:
Question 5: Are you an essential component on society in general? (See also Question 20: Are you something most people would use?)
Certainly not in the West but during the height of its influence, Pravda sold millions of copies per day in the Soviet Union (compared to the current print run of just one hundred thousand copies).
