bob zea wrote:Are you Solitaire?

Congratulations, bob zea! You displayed admirable, um, forebearance and used 8 questions to discover the correct answer.

Patience (or Solitaire in the U.S.) is a genre of tabletop games, consisting of card games that can be played by a single player using a standard deck of 52 cards, although they can also be played in a multiplayer or competitive fashion. Both Solitaire and Patience are sometimes used to refer specifically to the Klondike form of the game. The purpose of the game generally involves manipulating a layout of cards with a goal of sorting them in some manner.

The game is most likely German or Scandinavian in origin. The earliest known recording occurred in 1783 in the German game anthology Das neue Königliche L'Hombre-Spiel. It became popular in France in the early 19th century, reaching England and America in the latter half.

Versions of the game have been available on virtually every computer platform, and now hand-held devices, since the early 1980s. In some casinos, variations of Patience/Solitaire (such as Canfield or Las Vegas Solitaire) are offered as a gambling option.

Comment: Question 8 ("Are you something the average person might use daily outside of their career/job?") had me tied up in knots for a while because of all its qualifying words. Does the average person play the game daily? Almost certainly not. But might they? In principle, yes. And I'm sure plenty play it while they're supposed to be concentrating on their job.
