Cyblade – she’s training to be an elite super-spy and assassin, but who is she working for? A cereberal action thriller in the vein of Alias and La Femme Nikita, this is a whole new portrayal of Cyberforces’s electromagnetic warrior. Written by Harvey Award Winner Joshua Hale Fialkov (Elk’s Run, Punks: The Comic) with stunning art by Rick Mays (Kabuki, Zatanna), the true origin of Cyblade begins here.

    The Plot:
      Issue #1 Waking Life Oct. 1, 2008
It’s the “season premiere” of one of last year’s Pilot Season winners! You voted for it, you got it! From the pages of Marc Silvestri’s Cyberforce comes a solo series for Cyblade!
Set in the days before she joined Cyberforce, Dominique Thiebaut has been leading a double life. By day she’s an awkward teenager, but at night, a chip in her brain changes her into the deadly master assassin Cyblade. With the ability to create psychic blades of energy, she’s an expert in everything from thieving to assassination, performing industrial espionage for the seemingly benevolent Cyberdata corporation. But with the help of a spy sent to infiltrate the company, Cyblade has broken free from Cyberdata’s control. She must find a way to escape from their clutches for good, all the while trying to discover who she really is beneath.
      Issue #2 Sweet Hereafter Dec. 1, 2008
It's "episode 2" of this Pilot Season winner!
Dominique, a.k.a. Cyblade, is still on the hunt for her former trainer, Stephen Rashell. With her new mentor at Cyberdata determined to turn Dominique into the killer she's destined to become, the superpowered teenager must make a hard decision from which there is no turning back.
Issue #3 Wings of Desire Jan. 1, 2009
Dominique's hard decision leads to her salvation, but with Cyberdata on her heels, can the Resistance rally themselves fast enough to stand up against an army of SHOC Troops? With a special appearance by another member of CYBERFORCE!
Issue #4 Death And The Maiden March 1, 2009
The table is set for the final showdown between Cyblade and Cyberdata. Dominique must face her toughest foe yet, in the form of RIPCLAW! More than just her life hangs in the balance, as she must decide between her freedom and the lives of all those tortured by Cyberdata.

Action And Espionage! Reviewed by G-Man on Oct. 19, 2009.
There is something about this Cyblade series. I think it's the combination that she can majorly kick ass yet she is also vulnerable at times. Seeing her fight for her freedom early in her career has been interesting and entertaining. There's already been tons of comparisons to Jennifer Garner's "Alias." I do think that is part of the charm. Cyblade is like "Alias" but times 10. Reading through the issues, you can almost feel it as a live action feature.

Joshuah Hale Fialkov continues to add depth and character to Cyblade. There is more to her hard persona. She may have a bunch of cybernetic implants in her but she is far more human than the 'enemy' is. Lee Ferguson's art usually works for me. It is good but sometimes the characters appear a bit cartoony. More so if they are in the background. Perhaps there's a part of me that can still recall Marc Silvestri's artwork.

Because of the characterization given to Cyblade along with the action and suspense, I give this issue a 4.5 out of 5. There's a whole hidden world of esponage going on. Things are set up in this issue to add to that feel. I'm not totally crazy about the lovey-dovey parts but I understand how it is important to Cyblade's development. There is also a very nice Stjepan Sejic cover.
