A6.Times v1.0.0.37113
Requirements: Windows Mobile 2003 and above (PocketPC version). The .NET Compact Framework 2.0 must be installed.
Overview: A6.Times is an offline web content syndication reader for your PocketPC device, styled like a newspaper.

Image

Features:
- Support for RSS, ATOM and RDF - even those that redirect you to aggregation sites such as Feedburner and Gawker.
- Stores downloaded content on your device, in a database. You update the contents by "refreshing" the "newspaper", with the device synced to your PC.
- Formats the downloaded content for proper display on your device. If the RSS feed has images, it will thumbnail and place them as well.
- All URL links in the feed are preserved... and they work, assuming the device is connected to the net (runs Pocket IE).

Download Instructions
This software belongs to one of the Pocket PC software developers that are supported by PPC Warez. The company is very small and young but produces amazing software. I truly ask everybody here at PPC Warez to support this software developer. Thankyou.

Nice release, I edited it a bit- added the break command and underlined the download instructions instead of bolding them. 12 WRZ$ reward.

Thanks. I grabbed quite some things from here and I figured I should give something back.

I just realised some of you may have trouble browsing Microsoft's site for the NET CF, since I just tried to do so myself. The DL server containing the links are giving me a Gateway Timeout 504. If you're running into this problem, use this (direct) link instead:

http://download.microsoft.com/download/4/8/1/48185f9c-8f7e-4837-95c3-8db36 ... etupv2.msi

... and bypass their laggy gateway server completely. Tested at the time of this post. Quick, before the DOS'ers get to it. <_<

Hello everyone at PPCWarez!

We've just noticed that some of you decided to crack our beloved A6.Times instead of buying it. Very frustrating for us at Alien6. We're a young company, and we count on our sales to earn a living and create innovative products for the PPC and the Smartphone.

Now, what can we do? Guys, we're not Microsoft. We employ "zero" lawyers, and we're not interested in fighting a mad legal war with you all. We think our time is best invested in programming, 12 hours a day, for the next release.

Here's what. We'd like to tell us something. We'd like to know AT WHAT PRICE you'd be willing to buy A6.Times. And we'd like you to reply to us here, privately, in this PPCWarez forum. Think about it for a while, try to be nice, and tell us your maximum price.

I know you can get it for "free" here... But there's no such thing as a free lunch: it's "not" free, "we" pay for you, unwillingly.

After much thinking here at Alien6, we're willing to lower our price, IF we feel our revenue would increase due to a better sales volume. And IF we feel hackers like you would be tempted to buy instead of cracking A6.Times. It would be nice, wouldn't it?

Thank you for your reading time. And thank you for "evaluating" A6.Times. ;)

Hello HAL 9000. By "privately", I didn't mean "privately to us", but "anonymously". My mistake. All messages can be posted publicly here. But thanks for the tip.

Well that seems fair, asking for feedback. IMHO, I would say $25 is quite expensive for a ppc app. Ten dollars is about what I would expect this to sell for. I realize it also has a desktop component, but nobody would buy this for the desktop component, so you can't really charge for it either.

I haven't tried this app, and I don't plan to. I'm satisfied with my rss reader now.

Why not offer a full featured commercial version, and a less featured freeware version? A lot developers use this strategy to discourage the development of cracked versions. Also, why not have your sever compile the feeds, instead of each users desktop? Not only would that make your app more appealing, it would allow you to use more sophisticated protection.

I agree that dvlpers should be supported- as Ultimate Chicken also stated in the original post.

Yes, the original poster. -.-

First off, I can't otherwise pay you. No excuses from me, tho, it's all the same tired old reasons everyone uses. I love your app, but the best I can do here is switch to a free alternative, and give you some "free marketing". -.-|

Just to note: your price in certain countries may be twice the listed one after conversion rates et al.

My apologies once again.

Hello Alien6 team, and thank you for posting here. I agree that posting cracked versions of programs made by small companies may cause the company financial losses. I would like to know: how big is your company (members, team) and if possible please tell me how big are your revenues (if you do not want to tell me or want to tell me privately I fully understand. pm me if possible).

Hi there, I'm fairly new to this forum [about a week i think]. This is my first post and I'd like to say that this is an awesome program. I tried the beta some time ago and it's just amazing. Yes I would agree that it's nice to be able to get these programs for free, programs that people and companies have worked hard for [Specially a small one that just started]. And this is a damn nice RSS Reader if you ever tried it, not some rinky dinky thrown together crap. But I think your internet connection, that you're probably using right this minute is what.. At least double or triple what A6 is asking for their program, per month. I know mine is. Anyway I for one appreciate their efforts and also how nice their offer was to lower the price. I think it's just a matter of putting yourself in someone elses shoes and think about how you would feel. The way A6 looks, I'm looking forward to great things from this company. Well that's pretty much it.
Chat at ya later.

Dood...

Try using this program as an RSS reader... Frustrating as hell. It may LOOK pretty but it is slow and lacking in features - even on a 520MHz machine. Compare it to Egress on the PPC or QuickNews (the ultimate in features) on the Palm.

Sides which, THEY'RE USING .NET! And not even the 0ne-point-oh version factory-installed in our ROMs.

Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight...

I'm going to give up near-6 MB of internal RAM in order to first make my device simply CAPABLE of running your program and THEN install your app. And don't tell me to install DOT.net to a CF card 'cause that won't hack it (Google's your friend).

You gotta' have some balls to come on a pirate board in order to ask pirates to stop warezing your app. You gotta' have even bigger balls when that app is over-priced and DOT.net.

Do you have ANY IDEA how much respect DOT.net "developers" get within the the pir8ing community?

Holy F|CK!

Get rid of your graphic artists and hire some developers for crissake.

Yeah, after using it for some time there are some problems with this app - namely that:

1. You can NOT update each stream individually to save on bandwidth

2. You sometimes will not get news from certain RSS feeds unless you display only feeds you haven't read.

3. If you have GPRS setup it will try to access your GPRS sometimes, even if you're essentially reading offline content. The only way to stop this is to turn GPRS off - there is no option to prevent it from trying to hit the net.

The only reason I'm still reading this is because of its offline browsing feature - which wasn't avaliable on other RSS stuff at the time. Now that it's been integrated into something else, I'm gonna attempt switching.

I hear u, bro'.

I tried it a couple of months ago and I found trying to go back to articles you've already read (and navigation, in general) a tad tiring.

And are u serious -- offline browsing is a new thing for the PPC? Shoot, I've been away from the PPC platform for a few years but thank God that all of the newsreaders did this when I came back on board (August).

Personally, I like Egress (no pretty pictures, though). If u must have the pix, try Newsbreak.
