I was in the same situation with a non-Froyo device. If you don't fancy flashing a ROM or want a quicker solution, you need to do this then this. You will also need to back up your SD Card to restore later and then create 2 partitions (FAT32 and ext2) using this - the ext2 partition should be about 10% of your SD card's size.

Just a heads up on apps on the sd...the apps will run slower and widgets on the sd wont work.
