Help!!! My asshole of a brother sold me a Samsung Galaxy 5, the IMEI indicates that is stolen. Does anyone know how to change the IMEI?

As far as I know it's not possible to do that as the IMEI number is permanently flashed onto the motherboard of the device, if you want to change it you would have to replace the motherboard.

What about rooting the phone.

Nope, I don't think that would work. You would have to hack the firmware of the motherboard itself and change the IMEI number. It's not easy to do and you would need to have knowledge of machine code.

Best option would be to complain to your mother (unless the device was stolen from her in the first place of course - if that is the case you might consider talking to dad).
