If it does not belong anywhere else and has to do with Android post it here.

No you don't have to root to use most of the programs you can download here. If it requires root; it will say so in the program description. Give it a try.

Just started using Android yesterday and I love it. Have HTC HD2 with WM. I tried to install LauncherPro Plus and couldn't. How do you Root? I have had all different phones and never used the term Root unless you were talking about the Root Directory on a drive/SD Card.
Thank you!

Thanks for taking the time to reply. Yes, I know you can't install Android apps on Windows Moble. Apparently I was not clear in posting my question.
I have both OS on my HD2. I know how to install .apks into Android on my phone. That is not the problem. I have installed many apps into Android within the past few days.
I was trying to determine what ROOT meant. I did do Google search and found out what ROOT is and how to do it. There are some Android apps that will not install unless you have your phone ROOT'ed'.
ROOT was a term I have not heard before even though I did flash my 2 MDAs, Wing, JBd my iPhone, and installed Android onto my HD2.
Again, thanks for your help. I do appreciate it.

It means you can modify the system from the heart. Add, remove, change files in the [b]root[b] of the phone storage, where the OS files are stored. So you can customize pretty much anything on your phone. It's like "sudo" in linux. You become a SuperUser :D

You probably already have root access. Is there an app called "superuser" or something similar?
