You should try EasyTether, it doesn't even require you to be rooted.

You need to download a compatable kernal that will allow for tethering. Go to Droidforums.net. Search around there and you shall find 1.

You will also need ROOT or some call it SUPER USER access to your phone too.. Make sure to stop by modmymobile .com for more on rooting and super user. Sorry if referring to another site is not right, but he will need to access ROOT to user Tether...

First, install the desktop software Motorola Droid PDANet. Once you install on the desktop, it will automatically install the USB driver for you, and if not, you can use the USB driver for the above link to install. Then make sure you have a USB debugging still enabled. Connect your Motorola Droid to USB, and the smart phone, start PDANet software. Click "Open PdaNet".

Sorry If I'm a bit Ignorant, But I have the same Need. I have a Samsung Galaxy Tablet running 2.2 Android and a Motorola Cliq Phone running Android 2.1. The Cliq and Galaxy are both Rooted, Using "Wireless Tether" I can now get the two to WiFi pair and link, but get nothing on the Tablet when I try to fetch a web page. I understand I have created a AdHoc WiFi connection.

I keep hearing about this "Kernal" thing but have No Clue, as to what it is or how to get it or how to use it.

Please someone knowledgeable with this, reply with EXACTLY what I need to do and what i need to get, and how I need to apply it. I don't want to Brick my Phone or fowl up my new Tablet. But I do Need the Phone to act as the Modem for my Tablet when away from a Fixed Wifi Spot.
Thanks in advance for anything you can do to assist me.
