I didn't see it in the faq anywhere, but are the android apps posted here routinely screened for infections/malware in any way?

Your 99.99% safe. There hasn't been any reports yet. Check the comments on a post, our users will tell you quite quickly what the app is like

Chances are if the software is posted here and there are no negative comments about it immediately visible, you should be safe and then some. But always exercise caution. Lookout is probably one of the better anti-virus apps out there. If you expect your device has been compromised by the recent spyware attacks I would encourage you to grab Lookout's Droid Dream cleaner.
