I have a question for all you android experts here, if I get a SIM-Free "Unlocked" Samsung Galaxy S would I still have to root it to install cracked files? Or could I just download Astro of the Android Market place and install cracked apps right of the bat?

rooting a phone enables super user account(admin account) on the phone mate, there a few apps out there that need this level of permission (e.g galaxy s lagfix)

Cool, so basically when you get an android phone of the shelf it's locked into basic user mode and inorder for you to run apps, which require the admin mode you have to root it. Thanks for the explaination.
