Recently I've bought a Xiaomi Mi Max 2 and now I'm looking for a way to root it. Just root, I'm not interested in applying any custom ROMs, or any of those things that developers do.
What troubles me is that one of the requirements to root my phone is to get a permission from Xiaomi in order to unlock it.
I've never heard of such a thing. So far I've rooted Samsung, LG, Sony Ericsson, HTC phones and none of them required any special permission.
What is this new trick? Why do I have to do this?
And furthermore, they want me to give my phone number in order to send the unlocking app, or whatever.
I don't want to give them my phone number. Why should I? To fill me with useless update news and/or ads? If they want to verify that my phone was purchased legally, they can ask for the serial number, not my phone number. Not to mention that everything in their site is in Chinese and I don't understand a thing!
