I am in need of some advice on ereaders/tablets. I'm so sorry if this is the wrong thread, but I'm pretty sure the ones I'm asking about all are Android based.
THE PROBLEM:
My last 3 ereaders were Pandigitals (the 7” multimedia ereader/black friday specials. Everytime mine broke, someone gave me theirs- now that my third one broke, it's time to get something better).
I'm on a budget, and have a few options, and being fairly inept with this stuff, I don't know which one I should lean towards.
THE LOGISTICS:
I'm mainly looking for something to use for reading- I am a bookworm, read for several hours daily. So the device's main purpose is as an ereader.
My other concerns: It has to be a color device, no black and white/e-ink. Also, I want to be able to check email, facebook, and maybe even watch the occasional trailer on youtube. I don't really use my ereaders for music or watching movies, and definitely not for taking picstures, so cameras are irrelevant to me, and the movie/music thing is not terrible important. I don't really understand 3G enough to make it a priority- so it just needs to let me connect by wifi, and i'll be happy.
I love adobe digital editions/epub. I just do. So I really wanted something else that uses ADE, except it seems like no one else does. I thought maybe getting a tablet would mean I could still use it, if i added it, but my husband has a Samsung Galaxy, and it only used Kindle, so i don't know if an epub-device is even possible. I'd like it to be, but I know how to use Calibre to convert, so I'm not totally tied to epub- though again, I really, really do love it. Just bear in mind, I'm pretty un-tech savvy, so converting an ebook in Calibre so it works on a new device is cool, but anything super-complicated will probably be lost on me.
THE OPTIONS:
Initially, I thought a Nook color was my best bet, being (sort of) epub. But someone told me they're basically obsolete, and that I'd be better off with a kobo. A kobo is not in my budget though, so I have narrowed it down to the following options, b/c they are in my budget:
(Just to note, I know the prices vary on these, but in some instances, they're in my budget b/c I can make payments on them. My pandigital is broke now, and I need to replace it ASAP, so waiting until I can afford a Kobo isn't an option (I wish it was, and maybe later on I can get one, but right now, this is what i've got to work with). So I'm really just looking for advice regarding these 4- I know there might be some other tablets that are better, but odds are, I can't afford it or get in on payments.)
1.) Kindle Fire HD 7' 16GB Tablet w Case Cover & 2 Yr Premier Tech Support
2.) XO Vision Ematic Genesis Prime 8' 4GB Tablet Android 4.1
3.) HP Plus 7' HD Slate Tablet 8GB w-Case, Webcam &Dual Cameras
4.) Samsung Red Galaxy Tab 3 (8GB) 7'
can anyone give me some input on which one would be better for my needs? Or share your experience with one or the other, good or bad? Does anyone know if any of those 4 would use Adobe Digital Editions (not the kindle, obviously)? Or what format they take, individually? Do any of them use ADE/epub?
FINAL NOTE:
Those 4 are all new devices- I did look at some used Nooks and Kobo's, but everyone always says avoid used and refurbished- is this true? If not, I would consider a used device that is under $70, even if it wasn't one of those 4.
I'm so sorry, I know this is kind of a lengthy question that I've likely made more complicated than necessary. i've been stalling for 2 days now on choosing one, and I've got to decide on something. Any advice would be HUGELY appreciated; my undying devotion, cyber hugs and, should you ever cruise through ohio, thank you cookies included
Thanks in advance
