Back when I had windows mobile 6.1 I used this program called Slick for IMing over aim/yahoo. It was the best program on the platform, although buggy.
You could open the menu, click "send picture" which would open the camera app, and once you take the pic, thats the pic that would immediately be sent to your contact, via file send through the Slick program. It was the equivalent to "file send" on the average IM program on a PC. Speaking of file send, it also had that option too. In case you have a pre-taken picture, or any other file on your phone, that you wanted to send.
Another cool feature, and the simple yet lovable feature, that drew me to this program was the fact that your friends could see when your typing. You could see when they are typing. Simple, yet I DARE you to find an IM program on android that does this. None do. Why???
Well. One does. Slick. I just found out that in early august it was ported to android. Still just as buggy as ever. Actually, it seems more buggy.
Dont look at this version release as "the one to use", but more like a demo of things to come. It has promise. If these guys can fix a lot of whats wrong, then this would beat out meebo as the premier IM program on android.
Yes, a UI update would be in order, but I'd rather they concentrate on fixing bugs for the moment. I'd rather have stable yet boring looking, then flashy and unfunctional.
I'm not posting this message because I work for them, or are affiliated with them in any way.....I'm posting it because if this project is given the care it needs and deserves, it would be the most kick-ass IM program on a mobile phone to date.
I think the reason its not getting much attention from the developers is because they have currently 6 or so projects, and this one is the only free project (because nobody would pay for it in its current form). Right now it's in beta, but, nobody knows about it. Its not getting the respect it deserves (like rodney dangerfeild) and I don't want to see it just die (like rodney dangerfeild.......what? too soon?).
Currently its in beta. http://www.lonelycatgames.com
Again, dont think of it as fully functioning, just use it for a few minutes, and think to yourself "imagine this program with all the bugs worked out...."
