The word on the street is "custom recovery." As soon as you can find one of those for your phone, you should be all right.

Is there any rom backup app except Rom Manager and CWM? I have galaxy Gio and rom manager doesnt work on it. Can someone help me?
yes , and have more options called 4ext touch recovery ( acts like CWM ) , and 4EXT Recovery Control ( acts like Rom Manager ) . and Rom manager will still work if you like it ( not all features ) . you can still check for roms and download them , kernels ...etc but you can't use it to install roms ,

You don't have to have either. They are just custom applications. You can use default Android recovery for most tasks instead of Clockworkmod Recovery. Custom recoveries may just add a feature or two. ROM Manager also does things that you can do yourself in the recovery of your choice. However, having both of those applications does tend to make things easier as they are by far the most popular choices. Plus, ROM Manager makes it easier for you to find/download/install roms that are made for your specific device. The thing that makes Android great, it's all about choice. You do what you feel is best in your opinion.
