Of course it's possible....I would highly suggest you check out PhoneGap. It's free and open source as well. Not only does it support building native apps for the Android platform, but also iOS, Windows Phone, Blackberry OS, Symbian, HP WebOS, and Samung's Bada. It also gives you access to the native APIs of those OSes such as the accelerometer, camera, storage, notifications, etc.
