This version adds BIRD PLUMAGE DETAILS. You can scroll a large detailed plumage image to see all variations.

The Birds data has been updated too and the APK includes a Data update folder to save previous users having to download the full Aviasoft data folder again.

Fixed: The text cropping problem that stopped showing the text prior to the end of the text description.

Dear Sarah,

Great Job!

Does the database editor modify only specific but not all index files that are affected by renaming an item? I tried to localize the Eurobirds files by reusing the old Windows Mobile files. I would need to translate all entries in the new group files that did not exist in the Windows Mobile version. For example, the white stork is referenced in index0.txt, index3.txt, index29.txt, index33.txt and index42.txt. By renaming the item "White stork" only the files index0.txt and index3.txt are changed. The effort for manually renaming all entries in the new group files is quite high.

Best Regards,

Rainer

The current version of the Editor program only renames within indexes 0 - 28. In a next version it will use all indexes.

Wow Sarah you have been busy! :-)

I've now upgraded to 1.8.8 and I'm VERY impressed to say the least. All seems to be working fine on my LG 3D phone. The plumage detail addition is great. I'm also highly delighted with the new "capture from nature" feature, could this be expanded to allow capture for the other "non bird" sections?

Excellent, excellent work.

Hi Pete

Glad you like it. Put lots of work into getting it right, especially for birding. We needed those plumage details! :)

The media recording can be done from any topic (from the system MENU button). I moved the birdsong capture button to this area because I thought it would be too easy to accidently record over a bird song you'd already recorded, while running a compare. The buttons were too close to each other. The audio recording bird song) is currently used for bird songs but could be used for any other topic. Any thoughts on how you would like this to be used?

Hi,

I'm not sure (yet) how the captured images are stored/displayed. Is it possible (for instance) to have these extra photos (or video's/sounds) displayed 1 after the other in a separate tab? I've been getting into fossils of late (my missus says she's already got one!) and would like to A: add some photos (of photos) from a book I bought B: add photos of finds. How many can I take/add, and where are these stored?

Here's hoping the weather picks up so I can get out using NE 1.8.8 and the new Binos I got for Xmas soon :-)

All the best for the new year, Pete

I found a bug in the code for photo taking in the program so I have fixed it and released this as NX 1.8.9.

The photographs (and all media) are saved in a folder called 'Recordings' that must be placed in the Aviasoft folder.

I wish this app could scale up to the resolution of my nook. Better than many paid apps.

The latest version has beta support for 1280x800 @ 160dpi screens. I haven't had any feedback on how that works yet though. What res is your nook?

Installed 1.8.9
In the "blu" menu, the white area for groups overlaps the one for topics which can be selected just pointing on the narrow line left uncovered.
The tablet functionalities are not shown - at least in my case Flytouch3 - the image is only in portrait, cannot be moved to landscape and covers only about 75% of the screen. As before.

Yes, Amedeo, your 1024pxl tablet is still trying to use the smaller 800pxl at 160dpi (phone) screen layout rather than the larger 1280pxl layout.

I really appreciate your hard work. It's nice to see a developer here and one that is this responsive.

Thank you.

Your nook has the same resolution as Amedeo's (post above): 1024x600 resolution.

Amedeo and I are trying to get this resolution working full-screen. ;)

Dear Sarah,

I have the impression that the manually updating of localized group files (i.e. index0.txt, index1.txt, etc.) with your Database Editor is a pain. I thought that the localization of the info files (i.e. 1t.txt, 2t.txt, etc.) should be sufficient because they contain the common names and latin names as well.
Therefore, I have developed a dump Perl script that automatically keeps the localized group files (i.e. index0.txt, index1.txt, index2.txt, ...) up-to-date. It also generates some statistics files that inform you about info files that were not localized or are not referenced in any group file.

The script reads all english info files (i.e. 1t.txt, 2t.txt, etc.) from one directory and all localized/translated info files from another directory. It collects the file's ID from the file name, the common name from the file's first line and the latin name from the second line. Then the script reads the localized/translated file groups.txt containing the group names used in the Nature Explorer program's menu. After that, the script reads all IDs from all english group files (i.e. index0.txt, index1.txt, index2.txt, etc.). The script does not need to read the common names and latin names from the group files because it re-uses this information from the localized info files. In case a localized info file does not exist, it uses this information from the original english info file.

This script does not support all NX's categories. Almost all categories support info files that have the common name in the first line and the latin name in the second line. These categories are supported by my script.

I have published this script at:

Rainer
