sorry for delay. on holiday walking in the dales.

i don't recall being able to search by colour or shape. some topics have categories of species (we used to called these groups in wm) by colour. fungi has common shapes. the old wm had graphic menus which allowed you to choose a category by colour or shape. these pictue menus are not part of the android version but the associated group categories are still abailable from the category list.

landscape mode.. how do you see this orientation being useful? portrait is the best way to view the images on a small phone.i have a 7 inch tablet which can show much more. how would you envisage nx looking on a bigger landscape display like a tablet?

have both 7" and 10" tablet and landscape is sometimes is more comfortable when holding the device and also easier for young persons to hold it too... was just a thought..

as to the other info)relating to my question) that was what I meant.... again it's easier for young persons to use a shape to search and or a colour...

which part of the dales was you in?

we took the steeper south side route. red partridges on that side. and crazy lapwings everywhere in the upper hils. really surprised how few birds of prey are here. saw mountain pansy flowers today higher up in the hills near hawes wave clouds seem bigger around hawes in a sw'ly. what a superb place. i could spend months here walking, climbing and flying not to mention taking photos.

home tomorrow after which i will look into a landscape option to the app!

you are amazingly fortunate to work in the dales. sweet!

i am working on a tablet-only app version that can be installed alongside the phone app.

i found simply allowing the phone app to work in landscape orientation wasn't useful due to the tabs being set up for portrait orientation.

the dedicated tablet cersion will show 2 images on the screen at the same time, making use of the extra space tablets have. it will be aimed at 'standard' 7 and 10 inch tablets, rather than phones in landscape orientation.

what are the specs of your tablet? eg.. 7 or 10 inch and screen width/length in pixels? standard dpi is 150.

we hope to get back to the dales again later in the year, i really want to fly them. :-)

NEW! TABLET VERSION RELEASED!

This is additional to the existing PHONE apk and can be installed on the same device. It does not remove the main phone version of nature explorer.

The tablet is in beta - it uses the larger (landscape) display of a tablet to show more information at any time. (See the screen pictures on the Aviasoft website.)

It should work on standard 7" and 10" tablets (i.e. the Samsung Tab range) 950x600 pixels, 1024x600 pixels or 1280x800 pixels screen dimensions.

Other sizes may be added if anyone finds their standard tablet needs its layout added. The tablet and phone apks are within the zip download file and you can install both on the same tablet.

This new tablet app does not have a couple of phone version features as yet: field-note taking or database editing.

I would appreciate feedback from tablet users :)
