Image

Features:
Runs most applications for the Palm OS® platform on all smartphones and tablets running Android 2.0 or later.
Supports application programs written for the Palm OS 5.2 platform or earlier versions.
Includes support for programs that use native ARM code (PNOs, often called "ARMlets").
StyleTap Platform is very fast – often running applications faster than on the native Palm OS devices.
Users can cut and paste text and bitmaps between Palm OS applications and native Android programs.
Supports TCP/IP connectivity
(The preview version does not currently support Bluetooth over serial (RFCOMM) for communicating with GPS units, probes, calibration devices, etc. Support is planned for a future release.)
Audio recording and playback
Support for memory cards (applications using VFS), for very large application databases and files (e.g. medical apps, dictionaries, bibles, etc.) that won't fit in main memory.
On the latest smartphone devices, StyleTap Platform takes full advantage of high density VGA screens for maximum readability.
Support for the Android GPS. Styletap provides location information to applications as standard GPS NMEA strings through the Palm OS serial API.
Unique backwards compatibility features enable both older and newer programs to perform direct screen updates.
Runs on StyleTap applications have been certified by their developer to run on the StyleTap platform.

Note:
No serial needed

Awesome release!.....been waiting for this emulator a long time! Now time to figure it out.....where would you place the .prc files?

On the SD card there is a folder called Android. In my Android folder there is another folder called "data". Inside that folder are a bunch of other folders, one of them is for Styletap. On mine it's called "com.StyleTap.StyleTap". Inside that folder are two others "import" and "inbox". I put the palm files in the "import" folder and it read and absorbed them. It reads everything you put in there including the music files, level packs and so forth.

Before you responded I was playing around with Root Explorer and went into the data/data folder on the internal mem, located the com.styletap.styletap and put a. prc into the "files" folder and set the permissions the same as others in the folder. That worked for getting the emulator to recognize it. Now I'm having trouble with the program I wanted to use the most, "Small Basic". I can launch the app, create and save a .bas file, open the file created and fully edit it. The problem comes when trying to execute the code with the "save and run" function. Styletap freezes up and FC at that point everytime. Any ideas or should I wait for an update?

I don’t think you need to wait for an update, this version is working for me so it should work for you. However, I’m not sure exactly what’s going on for you because I didn’t root my phone and I don’t use the basic programming app.

If I had to guess, I would say that you didn’t knit the palm file into Styletap fully. The main file is where it needs to be but when Styletap didn’t import it on it’s own - it probably did not create whatever side files it uses to run that program. There are probably one or more configuration files styletap needs and those are missing. I would delete the style tap app, which should remove the modifications you did so you can start from scratch. After that, you can reinstall styletap and then, instead of putting the palm files into your internal mem directly, put them onto the Sdcard in the styletap folder and let styletap import them on it’s own. This should allow styletap to create whatever auxiliary files it needs in order to emulate the Small Basic program and everything should work.

If that doesn’t work, it might be that Styletap does not run the Small Basic palm program. I went to their website and they don’t claim that one works. It’s not listed so either they have not tried it or it does not work. They do claim that iziBasic, TinyBasic and ViziBasic from aldweb.com works, if Small Basic still doesn’t work after you start fresh then it might be a good idea to check out one of these other similar programs. According to the aldweb.com website, tinybasic is freeware that is still available right now. It’s the ninth program in section three of the menu along the left hand side.

Thank you for letting me know about the much easier way to get apps integrated for use on StyleTap. I will just have to accept that Small Basic isn't compatible with this rendition of StyleTap although it runs fine on the Windows Mobile devices I have so it's all good. :)

How much I do miss the ability to create direct launch icons! That was possible with StyleTap for WindowsMobile :(

lol! Five years from now, we will really want that when we are running this in an android emulator on whatever comes next in order to play palm games which still haven't been converted yet...

(update - I reread this and it sounds a little rude. I was thinking about all of the buttons and menus needed to run something in this emulator, the dos emulator I use for other games, a windows emulator we'll be using at some point for other games and so forth and how direct buttons would cut out the need for one more layer of buttons and menus However, the way I wrote this, it sounds like I was poking fun at this feature. Sorry for the confusion!)

From the medical point of view, I swear that the interfece of most of medical apps on PalmOS were far better than actual interface in Android and iOS. The stylus factor in PalmOS/WindowsMobile has only partially developing on Android (Galaxy Tabs, Asus Fonepad, etc). If StyleTap offer direct icons for apps, I will run to pay a full license because they deserve it!

It’s not hard to do direct launch icons, many android programs do that. I’ve always found it annoying when I hit the wrong button and my book reader fills up the screen with them and blocks my live wallpaper. Because different people like different things, it’s often not possible for companies to know which features are more valuable then others or which are more in demand then others. Earlier in the thread there was a guy who wanted special programming language support, now we have old medical programs and I just want to keep a few ancient games in my rotation. That’s a wide spread of interests which Styletap is trying to make happy. If you want them to focus on something in particular, it would be a good idea for you to visit their website and tell them what will appeal to your niche market. For whatever reason, how many other people want the same feature you do? Since this feature will not erode any other features by it’s operation or incorporation, and since it costs $50 to buy this program, they will probably include this in 0.8.006 if we are talking about more then a hundred.

A hint for those moving from StyleTap in WindowsMobile: take the full files from the "db" folder inside StyleTap directory from your WindowsMobile PDA ("exe" & "inbox" doesn't matter). Move the full contents from that "db" folder to the "import" folder in Android as fjj7789 describe it in post #4.
All the apps and databases from your original device will be up & running inside StyleTap for Android. Also the old device registered apps!
If you installed StyleTap in the WM PDA memory, just use a file manager to copy those files to the SD or CF card (some WM PDAs had both!), and then take the files from there. Don´t forget to make a backup! Recovering the files from the new Android configuration would not be so easy.
