Yes I've installed the hotstar adfree mod..login ang followed the intructions. I also clear the browser defaults.
The problem for me is that is doesn't pop up an option to open in hotstar adfree. It just goes directly to browser even though i already reset the settings in browser as what you said. I'm on android 7 btw..

That's indeed strange behaviour. Try the other way around.

Go the the app info of hotstar app and make it open all supported links by default (I haven't used Android 7 since a very long time so I don't know how different the app info settings are)

For me it's just App Info -> open by default -> opening links -> open supported links : open in this app.
(I think the clear defaults applies to a different section not relating to the supported app links)

This method only works on that one particular version of hotstar on Android phones only.
For watching on TV, the cast option works fine from the hotstar app.

This happes due to some security feature enabled. can you fix the same to stream the content on the tv. Since it required to work on code it will be easier for you to fix it. Sear the net to know more.

Yes I think it works only in India. Maybe VPN and casting don't go well together.

I've never seen this. Might be happening only for you. Try all the possibilities like checking if your hotstar app installed is correct one, clearing data, reinstalling, etc. I'm not sure if they added any server side update check or what. But yeah haven't encountered such a message yet.

This is probably some other unrelated problem with your casting, not due to any security feature as you say. I also cannot modify code of hotstar app as I've said before, it's just a trick which is used to play movies and shows.
