I didn't notice any major disadvantage in 1.60, although didn't use it very often to be completely objective.
Some reports are that 1.60 is significantly quicker than 2.44, for me both of them working just fine. Depends of the device, I suppose.

Well, before you do anything, my advice is to visit droidforums.net and make sure for the necessary steps.
But you have to have root privileges for sure and make a complete backup of existing swype so you could be able to restore it in the previous state.
It means, swype.apk from /system/app and libSwypeCore.so from /system/libs as far as I can recall, check it though.
Do it thoroughly before you do any harm to your system! As for the Korean/English combination I will have to check compatibility between slightly different versions for the beginning.
