I replaced all keyboard png's with the ones from the 1.60 HVGA version. I know it is a drawback since the new ones look better, but it should be completely fine to resize the ones from 2.4.44. I then tried a few ways to copy the language files over, i.e. renaming them to the EnglishUS name, but it still wouldn't work. I then decompiled the whole thing with apktool and tinkered about a bit, and suddenly it worked. It is a rough ugly fix, but at least it works.
If you want to use it in your own language, just replace the EnglishUS and EnglishUK files with your own, and put the correct keyboard png's in, resign and you are good to go.
