Voice command, software keyboards, and other input applications

I for the life of me, can't get any version of swype to work on my R2D2 Droid 2 except the stock one (1.64). I can uninstall the original and remove it from \system\app, and i can get the new one to install. This version (2.6.47) just crashes continually and force closes. Version 2.44 will load the keyboard but the blue button labels are missing and i touching it just highlights the outside of the keyboard blue. I've tried using titanium backup and it appears to get rid of it, but I get these same problems when I install the new version. I've installed it directly from my Dropbox folder, as well as put it into the \system\app folder. I've left it the original file name, and renamed it to just swype. I've even rebooted at every possible step too. I've never used adb, so I don't have a clue where to start with that.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I used to have this in 1.61.
I've removed unwanted languages but also would like to avoid paying extra (they use more message space than regular chars) for useless diacritic chars.

That would be useful as someone who will 99.9% be typing in English these symbols are a confusing waste of space
Does anyone with a better knowledge know if for example removing all the AZERTY QWERTZ and any superfluous Language files in the "files" and "keyboard" folders would clean up the keyboard?

any ideas?

It is working, you just didn't use the appropriate language for renaming and that's all. Ukrainian language support required two extra files in assets/files, and then, you also need to change keyboard names since the Ukrainian keyboard layout is not using qwertzy like Serbian Latin. Of course it is possible to do it in a hard way, but why scratching your left ear with your right hand instead the left one? So, for everyone that is confused with this renaming, switching, etc., just follow this logic: first find out what is the layout for your desirable language you want to put in, then find the already supported language in this package which is using the same layout, all the other layouts you can easily dump from the keyboard directory and that way make your installation lighter. Then rename the appropriate files in assets/files and you're ready to go.

On th X10, the keys all work. If one touches those "blank spaces", nothing happens in the text field.

That button on the far lower right hand (the apostrophy/period button) doesn't do anything. The one to the left next to the space bar works fine.

If the keyboard just "stretches" to the right a bit, everything will be fine.

Nearly missed that. Will stop work on Test-2 Version, since i guess this fixes your problems.
Please report back, if fully functional on X10 and other 854 Devices (like droid x).
If not fully functional, please give detailed bug report, so it can be fixed.

This version is working PERFECTLY on the X10 (OS 2.1) in both portrait and landscape and it has the NEWER keyboard layout. (The only thing that still doesn't work is the vibrate on key press...but I can live without it).

It only has Portuguese and US English but it shouldn't be a problem adding more languages.

If you have an X10, this is the one to get!

Thanks for all your help.

mad-murdock, this version did not work for me as well. it was this version that got me a bunch of force closings. the v2.4 version you had up had the problem where the keys couldn't be pressed.

afaik, this is not workable in Droid X. I know it can be done. I just wish i had the knowledge to make it work on the DX. Thanks for the help thus far.

Well, I just tried that version too. I've also tried your English/German version as well. Everyone just crashes and Force Closes. I'm running OS2.2. I don't think i've seen anyone else mention that. It seems like aohus is having the same problem as me on his DroidX.

thanks for all the help!!

mad-murdock,
The version that I posted US + PT is working perfectly on Milestone (Froyo 2.2.1): landscape, portrait, audio and vibrate feedback.
Thank you. ;)

I just tried using your version, and it works great on /ilestone. However, I need a en/fr version.

I edited the apk as per the language changing instructions from mad-murdock, but I get an error when trying to switch to french keyboard.

I then tried adding the azerty layout in the assets/keyboard folder, but that doesn't work either.

Mad-murdock, is there any chance you are still working on a hvga854 pixel version with all the language files in it? I'm pretty confident I could then remove any unwanted languages.

Thx
