Here is a solution for you.. Sign every apk you download yourself, that way you don't need to worry different people releasing same apk with different keys.

Before updating this (or pretty much any app) I backup using Titanium Backup. After that, install the new version of the application. If any problems installing (such as different signature) you can then uninstall under Android Settings, install the new version, then restore the Data Only for the app using Titanium Backup. This also preserves everything in case of a problem with the new version of the application.

PC util: https://code.google.com/p/apk-signer/ (works best with Java 1.6 for signing compatibility)

Cheers mate, can this cause any kinds of problems when doing this though?

Installed the xinstaller module and disabled the checking of signatures etc but after trying to install this apk it still wouldn't .....saying conflicting signatures? Rebooted my phone then tried again but still the same problem.
Not convinced the xinstaller is doing anything whatsoever??

Cheers bigbro, finally managed it. Few snags to start with as it kept producing zip files but just changed the file extension on the output file to.apk and it's worked a treat. Very easy and fully recommend to others :-)
