Looks like the new links in the OP take care of the issues described previously, including g729 support (although doesn't look like my provider makes use of it.. at least not on wifi or 3g). I use callwithus.com 1¢/min calls in the continental US.

A beginner's question;
Do you have to register anything/anywhere to be able
to make phone calls for free with this app? Or is it just
install/configure and start making calls? Sounds great!

On Verizon Droid X, won't use 3g, don't see menu for codec options.

Obviously there is network
And i can place calls over 3G with other sip apps

Have you removed the call home OTHER than license check?

Additional problem: Bria fires web browser if eula declined that's bad

Now we have Bria, never again need to waste time with Sipdroid and CSipSimple etc.

csipsimple supports G729, too. Bria is not integrated in Android -> csipsimple still wins!
