Check your gmail app permissions with root explorer then apply that over to the new gmail

Heh: a shame they can't make a REAL update like adding the option to switch off "conversation mode". Folks have been waiting patiently for that for years.

After backup with TB uninstalled with TB, and then regular installation, it works great.

Thanks for your advices

use root explorer and you will see it. 4.2 working fine so far.
What I did: backup with titanium backup, move gmail 4.2 on "system/app" with root explorer, remove default gmail from "system/app", reboot the phone, the gmail dissapear from aplication list, go to "system/app" click on it and select install it.

I did it like you, except after rebooting the Gmail app didn´t desappeared from the App list, it was there but giving FC if I tried to start it, so I just went to /System/app and I executed the Gmail 4.2 apk, installing it. When ready, I opened Gmail and I got the 4.2 version running, with all my messages there. :D :D Finally pinch and zoom!!!

Would it be possible to make a version that can be installed as a normal .apk, for non-rooted phones/tablets?

Thanks
