plays completely different songs.. Not what i have selected.

any 1 else has this problem???

Was working great for me all day today, then all of a sudden it started to play completely different songs for me too. So you're not alone with this problem.

so ive got some really bad news .... When I try reinstalling the old version of grooveshark, it won't play to right songs either, just like this new version. This is the case with both your own customize playlists, and also pre customized playlists like the "popular" list.... Here's some more bad news, the wrong songs that it's playing aren't even in the playlist you have open. This all begs the question, what the f#ck is going on?!

AFTER EXTENSIVE TESTING I HAVE DETERMINED THE FOLLOWING:
THIS VERSION OF THE GROOVESHARK APP SEEMS TO HAVE CAUSED MY ACCOUNT TO BE FLAGGED. THIS MEANS THAT IT NO LONGER WILL PLAY THE SONGS IT SHOWS THAT IT'S PLAYING: IT CHOOSES SONG/SOUNDS/WHO KNOWS WHAT TO PLAY AT RANDOM.

APPARENTLY THE GROOVESHARK APP HAS PLACED SOME PIECE OF DATA ON MY SYSTEM THAT THE APP CAN CHECK LATER TO SEE IF A PIRATED VERSION HAS BEEN USED. THIS MEANS THAT EVEN IF I CLEAR THE CACHE, CLEAR THE DATA, UNINSTALL THE APP, DELETE ALL TRACES OF IT FROM MY SD CARD, CHANGE MY IP, CREATE A BRAND NEW EMAIL, INSTALL THE OLD VERSION OF THE APP (2.0., AND CREATE A NEW USERNAME THE APP WILL STILL KNOW I AM BLACKLISTED AND THE APP WILL BE INOPERABLE.

I HAVE REPEATED THIS WHOLE PROCESS A BUNCH OF TIMES AND EVERY TIME THE SAME THING OCCURS. BECAUSE OF THIS, MY ONLY OPTIONS ARE TO PAY THE MONEY OR TO TRY WIPING MY CARD AND FACTORY RESETTING MY PHONE (NO GUARANTEE THAT THIS WOULD EVEN WORK).

IF YOU ARE WILLING TO FACE THE POSSIBILITY THAT YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO USE GROOVESHARK THEN BY ALL MEANS GIVE THIS VERSION A TRY. OTHERWISE, I SUGGEST YOU STAY WITH VERSION 2.0.8 TO AVOID LOSING ALL FUNCTIONALITY (LIKE ME).

i am unable to reproduce this issue. how many songs did you play before the problem occurred? i played about 50 songs as a test with no issue. hmm

I have the same problem, the songs are different, ¿? i like play one and play another =(

With the popular playlist it happens straight away and continues for all songs. For a playlist I had saved previously it plays the first song correctly and then butchers the rest. I will try uninstalling and then reinstalling 2.0.8 again and see if I can reproduce the same issues again.

To be clear I've had identical issues with 2.1.1 and 2.0.8 now and I'm about to re test 2.0.8

If you install this version, you run a high risk of being permanently blacklisted by Grooveshark which will render all cracked versions of this app unusable. The only conceivable way to possibly get around the blacklisting is a factory reset and an SD card reformat. The links below provide more information about this.

Great work Lohan. Love your blog and hope you add more stuff to it. I have a question: what tool are you using to disassemble the apk? I tried a simple baksmali and smali of your Grooveshark apk (followed by signing it using autosign), but the resulting apk fails to install. I tried apktool but that also fails when installing the resulting apk (after signing). Thanks!

i use baksmali when apktool does not work. apktool sometimes does not like certain kinds of resources. titaniumbackup requires baksmali, actually.

what is the error when it fails to install? what is the file size before and after compiling?

I dont get a play bar indicator any more... i get a warped loading circle spinning where the timer bar should be when listening to a track..

anyone else get this?

However, I have the same problem some are experiencing: the song played IS NOT the one I selected... it's not even a song I know. I think it might have something to do with this and their "attacker detection" policy:

Well it looks like we've triggered the attacker detection with this new version which means that grooveshark has logged our ips. So much for using grooveshark for those of us unfortunate enough to play guinea pig with this version. Lohan I love the work you do for the most part but I strongly suggest you request that this thread be removed entirely, or at the very least provide a BIG disclaimer in the OP indicating that you may get blacklisted by using this version.

Unfortunately it is my understanding that smart phones have static ip addresses so that the carrier can constantly identify you. If that is the case then it makes complete sense that even when I downgrade from 2.1.1 to 2.0.8 I still experience the wrong songs being played.

In the mean time I will edit all my posts to contain the following warning.

noliss, thanks for the link. i will continue to think but ultimately the power is held by the server operator and if they are so motivated they can detect anything.

lowfive, if the server operator notices your account downloading 100 songs and you are not a vip what do you think will happen? the crack merely pokes a few things here and there to mask activity so you remain in the trial period. how do you think having a different version of the crack will help? please do not spread your warning. the server operator would have to not be very clever at all for it to be true.

i upgraded to 2.1.1, didn't notice any problems, but after reading the thread i uninstalled ant put back 2.0.8, still no issues. i do trust that lohan knows that it won' tmake a difference, i'll probably put 2.1.1 back. it maybe that i only have 3 songs in favorites and stored offline. i really only need this when i'm looking for a song not in my library on pc of over 15,000 songs.

thanks for the info. it is most likely that your new ip/account solved the problem. the crack method between the two versions is nearly identical and if you change your ip/account there is no other way to track you.
