Today we announce XBMC for Android. Not a remote, not a thin client; the real deal. No root or jailbreak required. XBMC can be launched as an application on your set-top-box, tablet, phone, or wherever else Android may be found.

If you don't understand just what this is, think of having Windows Media Center running on your Android device, fully customizable, open-source, and with full Python plug-in support. Now think of it on Google TV boxes, Android-on-a-stick style devices, or the Nexus Q. Music, video, internet apps like Pandora, all running on Android device. XMBC does all this, and more. Have a look at Wikipedia if you're not familiar with the media center concept.

Tried 3 times downloaded from different sources. I think it is compiled for ICS only.

Hmmm, minsdkversion is stated 10, so 2.3.3 is correct *scratch*. Maybe the resolution is dependent?
Also an ARMv7 seems to be required.

greetings

Just thinking, is this safe to install? No strings attached? Whatever, let's download it! :D

Ooook, it just doesn't work with my Tegra2 tablet...I'll try to reboot my device, but I'm not very sure it will work!

As taken from http://wiki.xbmc.org/index.php?title=XBMC_for_Android_specific_FAQ:
tegra2 is not supported, and likely won't have support in the final version.

Confirmed working on my HTC Desire Z, with custom rom on 1.2GHz (CM9). Music's fine, video's crappy on 480p, and simply unwatchable when it's bigger.

Stumbled upon.

I got it running on my Cube U30Gt tablet. But input is VERY much faulty. You have to input things 20-30 times before it 'takes'. The Touch skin looks pretty good as well. But it does run, so it is a good start. There are a lot of bugs still to fix, I am sure - which is why it has not been released yet.

"XBMC for android v1.0" there is no such thing!
Yes XBMC.org did release source code for devs and beta testers, but there is no v1.0
When building from source, there are options to choose for specific hardware and build posted here will only work,half-work on few devices.
Poster should state, this is early beta build for mk802,mini x which currently lacks hardware acceleration and very buggy.

Working great on my Transformer Prime (TF201) so I guess the Tegra 3 is supported. Also, the Navi-X plugin works great on this XBMC beta.
