App Review: Neutron Music Player (source)

" probably the most tweakable music player I’ve ever used."

You will be if you use this application, which is probably the most tweakable music player I’ve ever used. Although the hefty price tag (for the full version, there is a 7 day trial version) of £3.21/$4.99/€3.90, it’s worth it for the audio quality and amount of tweaks you can apply.

    Image
Neutron’s Main Player UI, shown here from the lockscreen (hence lack of multitasking button).
If the user were to press home, the normal lockscreen would appear.
Also shown is the custom volume slider, which does disappear.

What does this do that other music players don’t?

    Simply? Everything.

Neutron has an extensive equalizer, as well as a fully changeable surround sound feature, which has 7 presets which control just how “3D” the sound is. If you’ve used the Dolby Mobile music filter on some phones, it’ll stand up almost towards that, and that’s coming from someone who used that feature a little too much …

accessed by swiping left from the main UI

So, you want a list?

Neutron does this: (using the settings menu, so almost all of these are tweakable and can be turned off)

      Wake up timer
      Equalizer
      Equalizer Presets
      Stereo DSP (crossfeed or stereo)
      Crossfeed
      Surround Sound
      Fader
Playback Mode (repeat, shuffle, just the usual)
      Gapless
      Pitch
      Dither
      Rumble Filter
      Resampling
      Replay Gain
      Automatic gain protection
      Normalization
      Power saver
      Lock Screen
      64 bit rendering
      Tweakable hardware audio options
      Lyrics

Admittedly, the UI of Neutron isn’t the best, it feels clunky and slow at times, I’m sure the developer will iron out the speed, and this has the workings of what could become a very good player.

The main areas are accessed by sliding left and right, starting in the player UI. Left is the main equalizer controls, right is the tracks and library. It also has an option to go into “clock” mode, which is a dock mode, and is accessed by sliding the “clock” button at the top of the screen down.

    Image
Tweaks for the surround sound, with the 7 presets shown
(7 being the most “3D” and 1 being the least [but not off])

What are the pros and cons?

    Pros:
      Very good audio
      Has gapless
      Can stream m3u
      Loads of features/tweakables

    Cons:
      Clunky UI
Doesn’t fully support some devices, and OS versions, for example it doesn’t do the lock screen music options on ICS and JB
      Widget is a bit weird
Can take a bit of getting used to

Hi Guys, does anyone experience the same issue as me? Neutron player indicated that my trial period has expired?
I've done exactly what you have described in install-steps, worked fine for 5 days then off, no more playing...

O.o

Any suggestion is welcome.

Thanks in advance!
