The sound quality is not very good, no ? 64kbps aac ?
I believe that is the quality Pandora plays it at. The patcher takes the "highQuality" link for downloading.
Here is how Pandora gets the UrlMap for the song it's going to play
If you look at the above, you'll see that Pandora has 3 options of audioQuality to play: highQuality, lowQuality, and mediumQuality. You'll probably also realize that the bitrate for all 3 qualities is set to 64, all I do is take the highQuality url map for download. The above links should be live for a few minutes before they expire on Pandora's servers.
Also, this is intentional by Pandora themselves. Here's an excerpt from them:

Pandora on the Web plays 64k AAC+ for free listeners and 192kbps for Pandora One subscribers. All in-home devices play 128kbps audio, and mobile devices receive a variety of different rates depending on the capability of the device and the network they are on, but never more than 64k AAC+.

If you look at the Url map i posted above, you'll see that Pandora already streams it as an mp4. Android devices nowadays have the ability to play mp4 formats anyways, so I decided to just save it as is rather than possibly doing a lot more work than needed to convert to the more convenient mp3 format. I also understand (this actually just crossed my mind) that most people associate mp4's as being video files, and the proper format is m4a for audio files, but mp4, m4a, m4v, m4r, etc are practically all the same thing. MP4 is a container that can contain anything ranging from subtitles, audio, and video. Also, converting to another format is a really bad idea anyways since the bitrate of the audio that pandora provides is already low enough and converting it to another format would only add to loss of quality unless converting it to a lossless format such as FLAC.

gamer765 theres no way that instead of converting the file downloaded to mp3 you rename the extension when is downloading to mp3 instead of mp4 i think is more practical but quality sounds the same as the pandora quality!!!
thanks again
thanks again
No, it's not as easy as that. if I renamed it as mp3, media players would not be able to properly recognize it since it would expect id3 metadata tags and not mp4 atoms. Also the structure of the file format for mp3 is very different from that of mp4.
