1. Uninstall Maps.apk via Titanium Back-up
2. Clear Dalvik Cache via Titanium Back-up
3. Clear cache via Cachemate
4. Go to settings >> manage apps >> uninstall 0 byte file for Maps.apk
5. Retart phone
6. Paste Maps 4.6 mod in System >> app folder
7. Rename to Maps.apk
8. Install <-- Success!!!

I may have gone a little overboard, but what matters is I was able to get it in. :-P Thanks for the upload diversity, and thanks fatthumb for the Adb tutorial still. :-)

P.S. I have not installed Adb in my PC, can any of you point me to a good adb tutorial? You may PM me for it as this thread might go off topic.

When I tried to do adb push Maps.apk to /system/app , Android reported NO SPACE.
Anyway to get around it?

I haven't tried on this release yet, but I was always able to install with:

adb install -r Maps.apk

Anyway to get Street view working into this map?

I'm using a custom rom where you can't install streetview.

Can't find step 4, skip it, restart then try to paste but ERROR - that folder is read only, what should I do ?
Adb method is not possible for me...I have perfect spl...so adb commands won't work

But anyway, what is the big difference or the main advantage of this version of G-maps from Google Maps 4.6.0 (freeware) ???

Since the original Brut maps (at XDA) has not yet been updated to 4.6 I wanted to give this a try. but I cant get it to work.

I'm have a Rooted Galaxy S running Froyo with Root Explorer. These are the things I have tried so far :

1. Replace original maps.apk (ver 4.6.0) under /system/app with the moded one. I was able to replace the file without any issues, but afterwards when I click on Maps or Navigation icons nothing works, the app keeps force closing. When I rebooted the phone all icons related to google maps : Maps, Navigation, Places and longitude disappear.

2. Deleted original maps.apk from /system/app and tried to install the mod by clinking on the moded apk, but the installation fails with the error "Application not installed"
3. try to run the moded apk while original is installed, obviously this doesn't work either and fails with the same error message "Application not installed"

Any ideas ??
