OziExplorer for Android is moving map software for devices running the ANDROID O/S. It uses raster map images which are either scanned or purchased in digital format. It allows you to track your position received from the GPS on a map (moving map).

OziExplorer for Android is not automatic route planning software, you cannot request the best way to get from point A to point B, the types of maps OziExplorer for Android uses do not allow this.

OziExplorer runs on Android devices but it relies on map calibrations etc to be provided by the full PC version of OziExplorer, you also need the full OziExplorer to calibrate maps, plan trips by adding waypoints etc.

The unlicensed OziExplorer for Android will work with the unlicensed OziExplorer but the limitations of both packages will apply.

Main Features
Moving map navigation using the internal GPS.
Course Up Mode.
3D Perspective View Mode.
Uses almost any map which can be created by the PC version of OziExplorer.
Use our Img2ozf utility to convert maps to OZFX3 format.
OZF2, OZFX3, ECW, JP2 (jpeg 2000) directly supported.
PNG, JPG directly supported (small maps less than 20MBytes uncompressed).
Automatic loading of the next map.
Check for more detailed map at a set interval.
User tracks can be loaded
Logging of Track points to file.
Create Waypoints at current position by pressing the Create Wp screen button.
Navigation to a waypoint or along a route.
Using the Route Create option, routes can be created on the device.
Many Map Zoom levels.
Various Position display formats.
On screen display of Speed, Bearing and Altitude.
Display Waypoints on the map.
Name Search
Satellite View showing SNR, number of Sats and HDOP.
Design your own screens using the free Screen Designer on your PC.
+ many more features to be added in future versions.

never tried this before, but looks interesting... where's the best place to get the raster maps that are used in this app? I'm looking for U.S. maps.

There is a program called GoogleMV which is a great companion to OziExplorer. It'll download maps of areas you specifiy at whatever zoom level you specify from Google Maps and stitch them together. It can output the data needed to load straight into OziExplorer. The OziExplorer site has a free utility to convert its desktop format maps to compact ones for the small device OziExplorer apps. Certainly the best mapping program I've ever seen.

Rapidgator tells me I have reached my download limit for today! I have never used Rapidgator before. This is another of those FileSonic workups where they bullshit you and stop you getting files unless you pay for premium membership. :(

Vodafile counts down from 60 (in Russian) and then (finally) does not give me the file. :(

xtrabit DOES work. :)

You can scan your own digital or paper maps with OziExplorer for PC.

If anyone wants it (with full scanning instructions) let me know and I will post it.

I'd be interested in that scanning application.
So this will allow me to scan, add & view residential street map directories?

The process is simple really.

1. ou scan or obtain digitally the map you wish to convert to work with OziAndroid. This will be in PNG or JPG (256colours mode).

2.You run OziDesktop and import it for calibrating.

3.You choose 2 or more points on this PNG map image and define their latitude/longitude points.

4.The result is saved with a calibration file (*.MAP) and this map can now be used on the desktop software as a moving map.

5.You then run a small program (included) to convert this large-filesized map to a small version for OziAndroid use. This creates a very small file-size map image file (*.ozxf3), ideal for device use. (The original desktop maps are huge in file size so we need a small version of our map for device use.)

6. You copy the *.MAP and *.OZXF3 file to your device's SD_CARD/OziAndroid/Maps folder.

Full details are included in my RAR. ;)

Notes: You can scan any map with your scanner. Bigger maps can be merged together with an image editor or with the Ozi MapMerge program, the paid-version of which we are still waiting for here. You can also get maps as simple graphical images (JPG or PNG) direct from the web. If a map is not downloadable but you can view it you can 'grab' what you see on the screen by pressing PRTSC key. Then open an image editor like PaintShop Pro and PASTE (ctrl+V) and this internet screen will appear in the image editor. You can do this several times and join up the different images grabbed from an internet site to make a larger map image.

You will need to find at least 2 points on your new map for which you know the lat/long coordinates. 3 Points is good. This is the only fiddly process as not all maps will have lat/long references on them. I prefer to draw these points onto the actual PNG map image as this makes for easy selecting of them during the calibration process.

I have installed this version, but it seems that it works as a trial: If you start using it recording a track, after 15 minutes it stops recording (which is one of the trial´s limitations). However, I didn´t see the "TRIAL" watermark.
Does anybody have a fully unlocked version?
Thank-you.
