Image

Viber is an Android* and iPhone application that lets you make free phone calls and send free text messages to other users that have Viber installed. When you use Viber, your phone calls to any other Viber user are free, and the sound quality is much better than a regular call. You can call any Viber user, anywhere in the world, for free and now also text them. All Viber features are 100% FREE and do not require any additional “in application” purchase.

WHY USE VIBER VS. OTHER VOIP (VOICE OVER IP) SOLUTIONS
******************************************************

* COMPLETELY FREE AND WITH NO ADS: Viber and all Viber features are absolutely free and do not require any additional “in application” purchase. Once you and your friends install the free Viber application, you can use it to talk and also text as much as you want. Just makes sure all your friends get Viber! All you need is an Internet connection: 3G or Wi-Fi where available. On top of that, Viber doesn’t contain any annoying ads.
* NO INTERNATIONAL CHARGES: It doesn’t matter where you or your friends are, be it on the same network or in a totally different country. You can talk for as much as you want, for free. Just make sure your friends have Viber too.
* NO USERNAMES, PASSWORDS OR REGISTRATION: You know your friend’s phone number, so why bother with yet another username and password? Viber uses your phone number as your “identity” and lets you make free Viber phone calls to any of your friends that have Viber – using THEIR phone number.
* NO NEED TO ADD BUDDIES: Unlike applications like Skype, Windows Live Messenger or Fring where you need to “add buddies” and have them approve you, Viber behaves just like a phone. Just like you don't need to “add” someone in order to call them, you don't need to add your friends in order to call them on Viber. If you know their phone number, then you know their Viber number, and you’re ready to go!
* DON’T KILL YOUR VIBER: To make sure you always get incoming calls/messages notifications, we strongly recommend you to keep Viber running in the background. This doesn't drain your battery or use up memory and improves your Viber experience.
* SOUND QUALITY: Viber uses state of the art technology in order to make sure the sound quality you get is much better than GSM or a regular phone call.
* MUCH MORE COMING: We are hard at work bringing many more features to your Viber phone. More ringtones (and custom ones), wallpapers, location based services and more are all coming soon to Viber!

What's in this version:
Viber Version 2.0.1 is now released and includes improvements and new features:
1) Exit Button- You now have more control and can turn off the Viber service by going to the new exit option under the "more" screen. Please note that exiting Viber might affect the quality of receiving calls and messages via Viber.
2) New defaults for settings- You can now better control Viber's features by adjusting the settings to your liking, such as: notification, proximity, etc.
3) And many more bug fixes.

can't you just download from the market for this one if you're getting a FC? is there a difference with free apps and the free apps released here?

There's no difference downloading from Marhet or from here, same program, so either one will give you Force Close . We're commenting on the program, not where you download it from!

The good about getting from here is you can get older version. Like in this case, older version actually works, but latest version doesn't. You CAN'T download previous (working) version from Market!!!!!! Got it?

Hi all,
This a member of the Viber development team.

I'm here to answer any question/suggestion you might have for Viber. I'll comment on what's already been asked/said here:
I read that some people's Viber is forced closed after installation. Does it still not work? Can you elaborate?

If you have any more questions - please feel free.
Thanks.

Do they appear twice in your Android's contact list?
Also - did you ever import contacts (and specifically her) from an external client? e.g Gmail, Exchange, etc.

yes, they appear twice in the contact list, and one cannot delete them as it wasnt created by me.
i can choose to hide one of them though.
No, i've never import contacts.
What happened before was that i had not been able to get her shown up on my viber, even after mine shown up on her for a few weeks.
So i had to force call her on my viber with the area code + number (as suggested in one of your reponse in another forum before)
Viber then started to recognise the number later and have both appear on my contact list.
From then on, i can send viber sms to her through the 2 separate number, but appear as 2 separate threads on SMS page

So why aren't you simply deleting both entries of her (through Viber, then make sure it's deleted in Android's contact list as well). Then re-add her number to Viber's contact list and you'll have only 1 entry that's working. Did you try that?

In GS2, "you cannot delete contacts from read-only accounts, but can only hide them in your contacts list."

Then unfortunately there is not much we (Viber) can do. Viber can't know this, and simply creates contacts according to what it sees on your native contact app. When you try to manually delete it from inside Viber, what happens?
