Are you rooted? If you are you may be able to fix your broken install.

.

No I didnt update anything.

When they merge your account over from google/facebook they log you out of their apps.
Once they log you out, you cannot log back in.

Basically they know we are using these cracked premium apps and have figured out a way to stop us.

Unless someone is able to stop the compatible device error, I dont think this app can be considered cracked anymore. or premium.

Yup. Textnow is using anti-tamper protection now. If the apk does not match the .md5 then it will say the device is not authorized and it wont let us launch it.

I know this because I tried to patch myself with Lucky Patcher and anytime you modify the APK the signature/md5 changes and it wont let you run the app anymore.

So until someone figures out a way to fix this. It will not be working.

I'm not 100% sure I understand. But, if this version is only for those who already created an account with a previous version, can someone recommend a version for me to create a new account and try out this app? Or, recommend another similar app to create a working number for texts, etc. Thanks

If your phone is rooted you can probably get an ad-free TextNow app to work.

If you are rooted I can post the details on how to get it working.

OK.

First, ignore this v20 app. Go back to v6.X

This is not a perfect science so try to follow along.

(Have a copy of Titanium Backup installed, you will need it.)

What you will need to do if you have never used TextNow is go to there website and set up an account so you have a login and password.

You will need an unaltered PlayStore v6.X app to install.

Once you have that app installed open it and use your login and password.

At this point, you should have a working TextNow WITH ads.

Open Titanium Backup and make a backup of your install, the one WITH the ads.

Once you have the backup uninstall the TextNow WITH ads.

Now install a modded ad-free TextNow.

Once that is installed (don't try to run it) go back to Titanium Backup and restore just the DATA from your prior backup.

If all went well you should now have a working logged in ad-free TextNow.

A few things to point out...

I've never tried this with anything over version v6.29 but your mileage may vary.

As way of explanation... what you're doing is using the PlayStore app to log in and create the data file which you then capture with Titanium Backup. That data can then be used to bypass the login problems with the modded ad-free app.

If you do get a working ad-free TextNow install make backups of everything with Titanium Backup and save the apk files also.

One last thing once you're up and running be grateful and stop looking at updating the app. Don't chance it, nothing is gained by updating and you could be left locked out.

Wow - Holy Cow !!

I think I have all that is needed - but that is a helluva lot just to get this working.
And 'specially as it is most useful for wifi-only (non-activated) phones, it may no longer be the best option to get a number for one.

Given that almost unlimited & free use of G. Voice can easily replace TN, it gets less & less attractive - sort of like what using Freedompop is like.

What I'd really, really love is if somebody could make an ad-free release of the unlisted GV Callback APK as the dev has sort of vanished, it seems...and I refuse to install the amazon app or pay for anything via GP !!

Are you saying there is currently no app, similar to TextNow, that will work with a non-rooted phone?

I'm not sure you're asking the same question.

To be clear I was speaking about getting an ad-free TextNow on something that is not rooted.

If what you're asking is if there is currently an app similar to TextNow that will work on a non-rooted phone, probably.

Next, are you asking if there is a working ad-free mod of said app that will work on non-rooted phones, I haven't seen it. If you find it please let us know.

All the apps like it seem now to have adopted the same 'protection' scheme so that free mean ads or not being able to log in at all after using a 'fixed' version.

Google Voice can easily replace TN, even on non-rooted phones & tablets and can even be made to work via wifi only.

I'm not a fan of their spying & tracking but really all 'free' providers invade our lives in some way & at least the big G doesn't lock folks out...yet.

Hi smallhagrid, I agree with you on the invasiveness of G services, where we become the product. Other than G voice, what apps do you recommend trying?

At the very least, I would like to be able to create, albeit temporarily, a # I can use to verify an online registration, that likely won't be used again by the registered service.
