This now works fine for me too. I'd tried multiple ways, and none of them worked. So here is a different way I got this to work that I haven't seen talked about anywhere. Before you read this further, please note you must be rooted AND your ROM has to have signature spoofing support already. If you have those two things, please read on. If you're interested in signature spoofing, XDA or some similar forum can help you with that. That's not the purpose of this post, so please do not ask how to accomplish signature spoofing.
Having created a TN account on a recent Play store version (v20+), I got sick of the ads which brought me here. The Play store version worked fine. I uninstalled the Play store version, rebooted and then did the following:
• With no TN installed, I went to APK Mirror, downloaded and installed TN v6.14.0.3. I was immediately able to log in on the unaltered APK. IMPORTANT: Do not uninstall this!
• Then I downloaded the modded v6.14.0.3 from here.
• Before installing the modded version, I decompiled both the APK Mirror and the modded versions. Using the sig-spoofing plugin from BatchAPK, I copied the signature from the APK Mirror version to the modded version by adding to the modded version's manifest the permission USES_FAKE_SIGNATURE and then the actual signature as metadata.
• I recompiled the modded version, installed it over top of the APK Mirror version, and it worked perfectly. Didn't even need to log in again.
But wait, there's more!!!
• I then downloaded the latest mod version here, which is v20.20.2.0 as of this writing. Without any changes to the modded version's signature like above, I then installed the modded v20.20.2.0 over top of the modded v6.14.0.3 version, and with fingers crossed, opened the app. To my surprise, it completely works. It's ad free and premium, latest version. It kept me logged in also!
•After the initial log in on the APK Mirror v16.14.0.3 version, I have not had to log in again. So signature spoofing seems to be a remedy for the problem causing people to not be able to log in or to have a network error on these modded versions. The app appears to have a built in signature checker that prevents log in if there's a signature mismatch (which the modded versions have a different signature than the app's original signature).
I hope this helps at least some of you in your quest. You can do this very thing with any number of apps. Although most Google apps don't work, even with signature spoofing. Good luck, and thanks to the devs for their mods!
