Not able to restore earlier backups and the app doesn't proceed from there

Backup = never.
This way it will continue perfectly.

If you are root user simply install the original apk on top of the mod.
Make your backup and then reinstall the mod without the need to uninstall anything.

There is also a way to do it without root.
