I annoyingly baked this into my ROM on my HTC Desire through Modaco not realising you had to pay for it. Searched here in the hope of some kind of crack as although I would like it, I really don't want it sitting there uselessly taking up memory and cluttering the programs list given I can't register it without paying.

Looks like the only options for me are: 1. reflash it.... 2. Boot into the bootloader, adb in and delete the apk from /system......

Can anyone suggest a free alternative to this program?

Currently the best alternative is Mobile Defense but I believe it is still in closed beta

Hi, bl1nk, just a word about this.
The forum you mentionned has the baking kitchen open to subscribers, 2-levels of subscription. The largest includes regs (1 yr) for Titanium Backup, LastPass Premium and - actually - WaveSecure.
I guess this is the reason they included such product, "helping" you to decide for the upgrade, which should be possible by paying the difference.

I'm still thinking about ;)

Btw, this release is kinda freeware, imho

np. yes, i'm using it. it's has an antivirus, a backup (contact, pictures, call history), and a missing device module.
it's hard to tell how good is it, it never find any virus (it's check the apps after install, which is a little slow), and i not used the other features (and hopefully never will :)

WaveSecure is pretty much uncrackable. If you can't afford to pay for it, you can try the free app from F-Secure.

Direct dload link for G1: http://mobile.f-secure.com/downloads/an ... ndroid.apk

Also, bloggers frequently giveaway licenses to WaveSecure in simple contests. So keep watching this link:

Here is a contest you can participate in:

Hopefully, this will help some of you.

No.

I've change my ROM numerous times, I even went from 1.5 to 1.6 to 2.1 to 2.2.
As said before wavesecure use your phone number AND your IMEI to recognize your phone. That mean your licence will still be valid until either you change your phone number or your phone

(I don't know if we can spoof IMEI like MAC adresses, I'd like but I doubt without serious hacker (and that's illegal anyway)

ps: "root" is just an user, who have all permission, this has nothing to do with loosing a licence ;)

EDIT: IMEI spoofing is not at this time possible on Android. Seems "easy" on android emulator (from the SDK) but not in a real hardware. Of course it should be possible but i've no knowledge about this

If someone know a serious hacker... I'd love this see this (for educational purpose) here is an hint: http://blog.codepainters.com/2009/12/11 ... r/#more-43
