Requirements: Android version 2.1 and higher
Overview: Shady has NO open button. After downloading the open button does not work. Shady has no icon, will not be on your desktop, and will not be in the app drawer.
There is only one way to open Shady; you must DIAL 123 in your telephone. You can change this dialing code to any secret number you'd like.
Shady is a completely secret SMS messager. It is a contact list, and all messages sent to contacts in the list are only visible within Shady. Unlike the stock messager Shady SMS notifications do not show the content. It is discrete, hidden, SECRET. You can configure the Shady notification message to be anything you'd like, so at 2AM when get a message from Bob's BarBQ there will appear to be nothing Shady going on
Shady has full MMS image filtering support. Android MMS works as follows, first a temp MMS is received saying "download" or "cancel". Shady does not filter this message because the image has not be downloaded yet. Shady intelligently waits for the image to download, and then filters it to the respective thread in Shady. Please ENABLE auto download mms attachments in the stock messager for Shady to automatically filter MMS images as fast as possible. If you do not enable this feature the temp MMS message will sit in your stock inbox until you actually press the "download" button, and by then Shady's filter may already have been shutdown by the Android OS; so please enable auto download in the stock messager's main settings!
There are countless customizable features including an auto responder, signature, notification sounds, animations, sent notifications, themes, and much more!
Shady SMS completely replaces the stock SMS/MMS notification mechanism. The first popup when Shady launches instructs the disabling of the stock notifications system. Shady's complete notifications system fully manages all Shady and regular contact SMS/MMS notifications. The stock notifications mechanism is disabled by opening the default messager, yes the one that came with the phone, and by unchecking the "notifications" checkbox in the settings.
Shady was designed for Android, but every manufacturer customizes Android in a different way. Because of certain manufacturer customizations Shady is recommended for use on certain devices. I code on the Droid Incredible, which is by far the most preferred device for use with Shady. The EVO 4G is a near cousin to the Incredible; therefore it is also a highly recommended device. The Droid X also have received good reviews for use with Shady.
Samsung TouchWiz has a history tab in the contact list, which may be un-Shady to users. If you have a Samsung device you will want to either disable TouchWiz, or root your device and install Cyanogen Mod, or another operating sytem not using TouchWiz.
OLD phones like the Droid Eris, Samsung Moment, LG Ally and the HTC Hero were released with Android 1.6. These devices have too little memory for 2.1, which results in Android shutting down many background processes just to keep the phone running. As a result these devices are not compatible with Shady unless they are rooted and using Cyanogen Mod or another aftermarket operating system.
It is highly recommended to remove Handcent and Chomp. Most issues are reported for Handcent because it attempts to parse the SMS message at the same time Shady is attempting to delete it. As a result the message is first deleted by Shady, and then somehow restored to the standard messaging inbox about 30 seconds later. The mechanism for this glitch is not understood, but is resolved 100% by not using an aftermarket text messaging app. Using the stock messager this phenomena is NEVER observed.
To remove Shady from the market downloads list please create a new gmail account, and change the account in your accounts and sync menu in the Android main settings. You can also root your device and delete and reinstall the market on demand.
