Yes I have seen that. I was previously using the patched app from this forum. But then I decided to use the LP. so I removed it in a normal way and not the clean install from some root uninstaller. And I am getting this issue. Do I have to clean it using root apps.

You do not understand how does the LP?
Most likely a patch for this application does not exist or the version of the application is not suitable.
The rest think explain too

As I have already said, this patch is very old and not may be used for applications versions 5. xxx
If you do not understand something, I was not obliged to explain something to you.
Use the application downloaded from here viewtopic.php?f=1333&t=1362510&hilit=NYTimes+%E2%80%93+Latest+News
But then do not apply the patches from the LP

Or try to install an app from google play https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nytimes.android
And try to apply patches to emulate LVL in LP, and when you purchase a subscription, check the save for the following purchases
Perhaps this method proves to be positive

To completely uninstall the application, you need to check whether not leftovers from it and folders
/data/data/
and
/data/dalvik-cache/
But before you delete an application, you should always clean up his data, this feature is available in LP
